Hello Kitty Combat Boots

A long long time ago, in a land far far from here, my friend Julia Winter and I were going to a show at Toad’s Place and went driving all over Connecticut beforehand to hole-in-the-wall military surplus stores. We found one which had a huge sort of vat enclosure, full to the brim with pairs of combat boots. We fished around the giant tangle of shoes, until we each had ones which fit nicely. They were probably the most supportive and comfortable shoes I ever owned. I wore them until the nails in the soles came through my feet.

I always like the idea of Docs, but nothing from Dr. Martens ever fit my feet as flawlessly or supported my ankles as well. At some point, I switched footwear fealty to New Rocks. Then I broke my ankle and it never really healed. So now I go barefoot or wear boring little Sketchers.

Through a partnership with Sanrio, Dr. Martens has just released Hello Kitty boots. Hello Kitty is a cute punky brand with the resiliency of a rapper. Hip hop guys can pimp any product they want, appear in any movie they want, and endorse the most ridiculous things, and somehow still be cool. This usually doesn’t apply to punk brands. But somehow Hello Kitty manages it. That little cat just knows how to make that paper.

Would you wear Sanrio combat boots?
