weirdness past few days when trying to get to the site
hey, i have been unable to visit blueblood.net for nearly a week now. whenever i have tried i got redirected to gothic.net; then for the past day or so, my antivirus/security suite kept popping up a warning saying that this was a "known attack site" and even when i went and ignore that, the site's entire layout was squirrely.
now it at least looks mostly normal, but i am still wondering what all happened! i know there was some maintenance - for a day - but it seemed like much much more than that.
Re: weirdness past few days when trying to get to the site
I've been having the exact same problem. I even tried on three different computers. :P They all say it contains malicious third party material.
I'm surprised I can even post this, it seems like some pages are okay and others are still blocked.
**After I posted, it informed me the site contains malware and may have been compromised by a hacker. Hope this can get fixed soon!
Re: weirdness past few days when trying to get to the site
There were a few separate but unfortunately concurrent issues. There was a period during which the upgrades were taking place, which was what we put that maintenance closure warning thread up a week or so ago. Then, right as we were opening the site back up, an ad network had a relatively serious code problem. When Google or Firefox or whatever says stay off a site, it's generally a good idea to actually stay off that site until they give the all clear.
I am happy with the upgrades to the publication area and I hope that you all enjoy some of what we have going on now and in the near future.
Re: weirdness past few days when trying to get to the site
I'm still having issues but at least I can access certain parts of the site.
The new layout looks great though, it's very well organized and nicely designed, so good job.

what sort of issues are you having? if they are complicated you can private message me if you like.

i am always a wee bit paranoid when i see those warnings show up for a site that features "adult content." part of me is suspicious that it is the "adult content" on the site that is being flagged as objectionable rather than anything nefarious or malicious. that being said, i also know that there are a good number of bad porn sites that do have that kind of malicious stuff on them.
Re: weirdness past few days when trying to get to the site
By a huge margin, malware is found on non-adult sites. Generally ad networks are a bigger target. Pirate sites can be a problem, but it's important to know the difference between legit adult oriented sites and theft oriented warez sites that happen to distribute adult material. Proper adult sites get a bad rap, but they are generally very safe, as they don't generally have very much room for outside code to be injected.
BlueBlood.com didn't have any problem at all with this last thing.
Re: weirdness past few days when trying to get to the site
The distinction between a benign and a malign site is just as necessary for pirating websites as it is for porn. It's easier to tell the difference though; if a piracy site requests to run eight domains worth of off-site scripts or wants your credit info it's a safe bet it's a scam, while for some reason this is considered acceptable in the erotica industry. =P
Re: weirdness past few days when trying to get to the site
well, I did find the gothicnet forums vaguely entertaining........and they think we're boring:drolleyes
Re: weirdness past few days when trying to get to the site
I posted there for a while, but they're such a negative bunch. I think it has something to do with the 'gothic' in the url - our local dutch goth forums have the same cynical mood to them, where actually liking gothic culture is frowned upon for being too obvious, or something.

It seems to be okay now, but yesterday, it would randomly block me from visiting certain pages, but correct itself once I refreshed. It was mainly threads in the erotica section. But everything's been fine so far today.
And I've found the same thing as Raza, any forums with the word "gothic" attached to them seem to be filled with negative people trying to out-goth each other. Not very fun. I'm glad this is a positive community.

yeah, i overgeneralized. i agree that it is the ads on a good many sites that are the problem. i just know too many people who have picked up a random infection from either intentionally or accidentally clicking on an ad. it really doesnt matter the type of website. my parents are two that seem to run afoul of something every so often - most often a rogue antivirus program. i ran across something about a year back on an online dating site that had a really...wonky popup ad that i ended up reporting.

yeah, they are, aren't they
Re: weirdness past few days when trying to get to the site
i think somewhere along the way, the goth mentality got the words 'dark' or 'depressive' and 'negative' confused.
