How funny is that that they make you swear on a bible? baring the obvious, for one thing I'm not even sure that the bible really says that you can't lie. I mean maybe, but it's not one of the ten commandments (you can't lie about what someone else does, but it doesn't say anything about lying about what you did) and it's not even one of the seven deadly sins.

here is a rule to live by: Always lie to people in the judicial system. They tell you right up front that anything you say will be used against you. Especially in a court of law. It's not a conversation, it's an examination to prove your'e guilty.

The only time when you should not lie is when you already know that they know for a fact that you are guilty and you're lying. In that case, tell the truth- but only so long as it doesn't entail you admitting your guilt. Use such ambiguous phrases as "not that I can recall" or "as far as I know".

i got called for jury duty once. the trial got called off but i wish i had read Morning Glory's post then because that answer is perfect.

oh shit, that reminds me. I was supposed to have jury duty today. whoops.

Oh OK, sweet. My jury duty has been rescheduled for the 26th. I wonder what would have happened if I was supposed to show up and didn't.

But seriously though, it just depends on the situation, as everything pretty much does. To save my own ass, if I think I could get away with it, then yes. If not or if it's to save the ass of someone I don't care much about or did something that I actually feel they were very wrong, then again, I'll tell the truth, or at least as much of the truth that keeps me uninvolved.
