Album of the Year

So 2006 is rather close to over. What is everyone's choice for album of the year?

I know sometimes it's hard to decide on a single album but please just post one and not a list. It can be from any genre and if you care to, give a breif explenation of what is so awesome about it?

For me I think Katatonia's - The Great Cold Distance is album of the year.

I've been a fan of Katatonia for a while but for some reason when I decided to check out this release of theirs it just hit me differently. It's beautiful and dark and I dunno how to describe it. It just puts me in another place when I listen to it. I like every single song on it.

hmm. well if "The Great Depression" by D, OH came out this year, then that. otherwise, I guess it'd have to be by default "Oh Calcuttta!" by the Lawrence Arms. pretty much I based that just on whether any of the four or five bands that I care about at all came out with an album this year. I guess someone else I liked probably did, but nothin comes to mind.

Monotheist by Celtic Frost

It's one of the truly dark albums I've bought in a long time. If you don't know who Celtic Frost is they are one of the groups that created black metal scene in Europe in the 80's. This album has a very contemporary sound though.

Unlike a lot of metal albums I think this could appeal to people who don't listen to a lot of metal. It has some tracks that have some very Doom/Goth sounding material like "A Dying God Coming into Human Flesh". "Drown in Ashes" has these beautiful female vocalist and this heavy rhythm. It's got some cool deathscapes and some serious thrash too.

actually haha... im not even gonna answer cause i want to rant on and on about how i obsessed over godsmack's first cd, and devildriver's cds and stuff by this DJ my buddy knows called influenza, and my friends bands that just recorded cds... the list goes on. hehe sorry :( i can never ever pick just one when it comes to music.

Laibach - VOLK !!!

This time Laibach interpreted national anthems - the only one I dislike is Germany...The best one is Russia! I really wonder what Americans think about their anthem, I think it's kinda cool!
