Luxury camping equipment???
WTF? What ever happened to roughing it. Foraging and living off the land? Isn't that the FUN of camping?
Sorry, but I just saw a commercial for 'hot water on demand'. So you can have a nice hot, relaxing shower in the middle of the forest.
GO JUMP IN A LAKE! That's what I say.
Re: Luxury camping equipment???
There's something to be said for one or two creature comforts - sleeping in a bedroll ya pulled off yr bike, no tent, small fire. But a small, self-contained espresso maker to mark off the morning. No, I don't have one, but they make em.
Re: Luxury camping equipment???
fuckin yuppies.
I think they just do it so that they can brag to their friends about how eco-friendly they are.
yes, me and the misses shit in our solar powered portable toilet in the middle of the woods.
Re: Luxury camping equipment???
They rail at the guy with the SUV who bought it to help out every now and then with a soccer team or for Habitat for Humanity - as being someone who hates the environment.
But when they take the Volvo "Utility vehicle" out to the countryside, it's to commune with nature.

i like those solar showers.
i grew up 5 mins from shore and 5 mins from a forested mountain. great as a kid teaching myself how to build something that will keep you dry in the rain while you cook your freshly caught fish

How do you solar-power a hole???
Re: Luxury camping equipment???
you think these guys shit in a hole? no that would be beneath them. (pun intended)
they want to get away from the city and go out in nature, and of course bring all of the things that they have in the city out into nature with them because they can't do without them.
it's true, they will build a road right up to the edge of the tree line, and then people will drive up in their SUVs, put it in park, take two steps and then put up a mobile-communications base with all of their home appliances inside it.
they don't want to go camping, what they really want to do is establish a civilization.
Re: Luxury camping equipment???
thank god theres a limit to how far they can go
Re: Luxury camping equipment???
haha. I went camping in what seemed the backwoods of Minnesota. The place was full of these 100K trailers and rvs. Had wifi, stores, everyone rode around in this burly golf carts (no golf course though). Was fun in a redneck yuppie sort of way. Sang "Lola" at the karaoke there. I was dying laughing.
OEC
Re: Luxury camping equipment???
that is just tragic.
that's not camping, that's just simply relocating for a week or two...
Re: Luxury camping equipment???
There was a story back in yesteryear about camping sites for the rich. 2000$ a night tents with butlers/chefs to cook your meals while the little ones scuba dive/wind surf.
Re: Luxury camping equipment???
What? Thats just fucked up that is.
Re: Luxury camping equipment???
I used to go camping with my brother and grandfather every year, we had a tent, a little cooking stove and that was pretty much it.
My aunt and uncles idea of camping is packing the afore mentioned solar shower/espresso machine as well as whatever they can fit in their car/trailer, getting bored an hour after ariving (not setting up or anything) then going to a nice cushy hotel.
But they are so far upthem selves there distorting the space/time continuum.
Re: Luxury camping equipment???
camping for me as a kd involved:
building your own shelter
cooing on an open fire
fishing and foraging to supplement what food you have taken with you
first time LARPing in Kent we arrived on-site and everyone lived off pot noodles, it was a shock to them when we used the fire pit for cooking a stir fry on and not just to keep warm at night
Re: Luxury camping equipment???
I've been snow camping a few times. Had to build caves. "Luxury camping" isn't rally camping, it is fun though.
Re: Luxury camping equipment???
waking up under snow once was odd.
having to poke the ground to find the next person to relieve your watch was odder
