Lady Alias and Ajax- Id hate to think youre both questioning my intelligence to make an informed and educated decision based on what candidate I believe is right for this country.

So, what youre saying is because I think the candidate opposed to you is the better decision, I must be ignorant?

I guarantee I know more of the voting records than either of you.

And since you both support the killing of surviving aborted babies, you both suck in my book;]

I already voted (absentee ballot), but I'll be so thankfull when this election is over, they're such a headache. But I love that people are voicing their opinions, no matter which side they are on, and I hope that people will make informed decisions.

What I was saying was, while I don't think you're a bigot, unfortunately that word choice IS used as "code" by racists. That was more along the lines of "I don't think you're a crip, but wearing blue in this neighbourhood might get some responses".

And (not to Jax here, but to those making these statements about "Muslims") - saying you won't vote for a Muslim is just as bigoted.....

ALL American politics is like this.

    GO MCCAIN...I love Sarah Palin.
Because you believe children should learn creationism in school, because you believe women should have to pay $1000 to prosecute their rapist (cause the **** kit comes out of your pocket --- if you don't have that money, then you can't exactly prosecute without the samples, huh?) or because you're rabidly pro-life to the point where you believe the potential death of a mother is still no cause to abort?

I'm not putting words in your mouth with this, I'm just curious what on Earth would possess anyone with a vagina to vote for that woman.

And were you on the boards the last election? Im pretty sure (correct me if Im wrong) the majority were for Bush. I was VERY much against him. I hate Bush, didnt vote for him in either election...haha!
Nope. I wasn't. And I believe you wouldn't vote for that nut.

Nope I expect people to get off their asses and work. Excuse the hell outta me for getting sick and tired of financially raising other peoples children and paying for their food/utilities/rent/cars/cell phones/medical bills while I can barely pay mine.
That MIGHT have something to do with the fact that Bush and Co. of which McSame is a part decided to look after the fat cats (note that while they decry giving a single mother whose husband walked out assistance, they see NOTHING WRONG with a $770 TRILLION bailout to Wall Street....) One thing that made me angry with Obama was him lockstepping in with corporate welfare.

Every time a Republican gets in, the guy on the street takes it up the ass and the ultra rich get much much richer. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. And yet (not putting you in this category Jax) every goddamn Wal Mart Nation trailer dweller is WORRIED about what would happen if Obama raised taxes on people making $250,000 a year or more --- putting those tax levels back to where they were under Clinton. Remember Clinton? Buck a gallon gasoline and jobs-a-plenty?

Do you know how long its been since Ive seen a doctor? And do you know that its about 90% likely I have skin cancer? But I cant afford my med bills...why the hell should I have to pay for some lazy ass to go into the ER for a cold?
Why wouldn't you support a single payer system that means you CAN see that doctor, even if you were laid off or between jobs through no fault of your own and needed help, not to be told by some HMO "sorry, but to preserve our profit margin, we're calling this "pre-existing"?

You wanna see a system being abused, go check out Halliburton during Iraq. THAT is your money, Jax, and it's profiting the Vice President directly.

I guess I'm gonna have to clarify these remarks, Jax.

I think I know why (and I mean this in its literal sense: I'm guessing here) you want to vote Republican. Stop me if I'm wrong and this is at risk of putting words in your mouth. You seem to be one of those people who thinks everyone should pull him or herself up by his or her bootstraps, tote his or her own bale, put in a good day's work AND BE REWARDED FOR IT.

What attracts you to Republicanism, if I understand you right, is old-school conservative values like self-reliance, fiscal responsibility and small government.

I happen to AGREE with these values, Jax. And I commend you for them, if that is what attracts you to the party.

But that party abandoned those values AGES AGO.

It's now a complete free-for-all. They're spending like drunken sailors without raising taxes. As a result, the currency devalues: that's a "tax" you pay - either explicitly or implicitly.

They're mired in a sandbox so that Halliburton can put amounts on blank cheques you have to make good on, leading to a much weaker nation militarily and economically. It made no military sense to do what they've done. The first general was fired for saying it was a lunatic and stupid decision.

They refuse to find any alternatives to oil, even though when you do the math drilling all known sources (here and elsewhere) will NOT ease the problems we have now.

And the last thing is the complete and utter pissing on the Constitution they've been doing. Removing rights like habeas corpus scares the ever loving shit out of me. The thought that Forrest might be subpoenaed to give as much information about us all secretly is disturbing. Not cause I have anything to hide, but simply because this country isn't supposed to be like that.

Secret prisons, torture, the quiet removal of rights, the implementation of mandatory ID papers that broadcast your info to any cop (or any identity thief) who wants to know it)...

And at the same time you're working harder and seeing less for it, while some guy who happened to go to Yale "in the club" made a ludicrous bet and wants the government NOT ONLY to cover his losses, but pay him the value of that "asset" to the tune of the highest possible price (e.g. profit) he could have got for it, without any oversight or repercussions.

That's why you're catching flak from people, Jax. You seem to be voting against your own self-interest. Unless you're a corporate fat cat fundamentalist Christian wacko with a wide-on to see Arab children set on fire, but you don't strike me as that kind of person.

What do you mean by "killing of surviving aborted babies"? As far as my regular abortion stance goes....It's like this. I'm a man and with that in mind I just don't feel like I have the right to tell a woman what she can and can not do with her body (For this reason I also this prostitution should be legal). Does that mean I think abortion is a great thing? Nope. Does that also mean that I think just because it's legal that I think religious-wise it's O.K.? Nope. I also believe that a woman should only be allowed an abortion in the first trimester unless there is something seriously wrong health-wise with her or the baby. This whole 6 month thing blows my mind. I don't get it. Aborting a baby that comes out looking like a baby to me is murder. If you can't figure out if you want to keep the fetus by three months of pregnancy than I think it should be too late and now your stuck with it. Tough shit. These woman that you see on the news who have babies and had no idea they were pregnant? Please...It's called a period people. Look it up. If you miss yours there's a very good chance you're pregnant. At three months or less, I just think developmental wise, there's not much to the baby yet. So, it's up to that point that I believe abortion should be legal..

***So, what youre saying is because I think the candidate opposed to you is the better decision, I must be ignorant?***

Never said anything like that. All I said is that alot of what you mentioned about what you don't like about Obama is the same shit I see on anti-Obama commercials all the time. Mudslinging in commercials always "blows up" certain things that are said(and that's for BOTH parties). Like the Socialist thing....I mean, wut? Obama says he wants to tax the rich more because "we should spread the wealth". Republicans hop on that shit and turn it into "Obama's a Socialist". Wut?

As far as why you believe in McCain, like I DID say, it's our right to vote for anyone who you want. More power to you. All I did in the last thread is tell you why I'm voting for Obama. That's all. Not why you shouldn't vote for McCain. Nothing about you being ignorant in your choice.

    I dont get it.

I really really hope McCain wins. Regardless of Sarah Palin (and Lol Biden is just as old and cranky and mean as McCain) McCain is a wonderful candidate.
I have a lot of respect for McCain. I like his spirit and tenacity. In the end, I was unable to vote for either major party candidate. While the hyperbole has been unfair to both candidates, I had to accept the fact that my disagreements with both candidates were too great to ethically pull that lever. Was on the Obama bandwagon for awhile. I actually attended the Saint Paul rally. I voted for him in my first ever political party caucus (independents can vote in either here). I had subsequent issues with his positions and performance. I would have voted for McCain in 2000 or 2004 as (D) in a heartbeat. My sense is either will be better than Bush, but neither will be able to avert the hardships we'll be facing.

Being tortured for a few years, though a sad and heartbreaking situation, is insufficient to get my vote.

How McCain became McCain is something only he can answer, I don't believe people were attracted to the McCain of 1996-2004 for that reason alone.

Well, his "yess massa" ing of the current administration kind of killed any enthusiasm for who he was at that time.

It's probably over for him now in terms of the presidency. I do hope to see the old McCain back in the Senate. I know he doesn't want to go out this way.

I'm glad we saw this side of him, before he got all angry and bombed Iran.

His brother has a temper too --- remember him calling 911 to report he's spending too long in traffic, and telling the woman to f--- off?

It is likely that WcCain won't survive the next 4 years anyway. That's just a statistical probability.

Obama's corporate ties make me less than satisfied with him as well.

I have to admit, I'm a political junkie. I used to live for this stuff, it's how I was raised. In recent years I've tried to chillax, but I've had a small relapse this cycle.

I've mostly just been making smart alecky comments on this thread, because I don't really have the time or energy to thoughtfully and articulate my actual feelings on the current election, and crisiseses facing us right now. (In short:Obama bad, WcCain worser. Scary Alaskan Clown Lady will cause another Civil War.)

    However there is this:

it's funny because doesn't it seem like just about everyone wants that? Yet, people seem content to ignore the fact that we aren't getting it and haven't been for some time (and it's longer than just 8 years).

I know that's why they voted bush in 2000. then in 2004, when they voted him again, after doing the total opposite, fucking us up to all the problems that we are having today, I was like what the fuck? are you people blind and deaf? and then people are going to vote mccain for the exact same thing, again!

Throwing everyone to the wolves makes you sound like a real badass. Till the day you're bring thrown in too.

My girlfriend right now works two jobs. She has to pay rent, car, insurance, food, gas. Even with two jobs she can barely make her rent and you can forget about having enough time to go to college to get more. The shitty insurance most jobs put you on can barely cover anything.

Going to get her teeth drilled would put her behind an extra 800 bucks.

Jax, the problem I have with you telling everyone to "get off there lazy asses and go work" Is that alot of people do and are STILL fucked.

McCain supports the standing status quo of tax cuts for big business. It sure does make alot of jobs. For people over seas. It sure does help the economy. Of Mexico and China.

You know who really makes our economy go around? Us 95% of the population who makes under 250 thousand dollars a year. We're the one who spend money buying shit in stores, restaurants, paying energy bills, gas bills, school etc etc. Obama disagrees with free trade and wants to give money back to US.

Studying white collar crime and how corporations ditch 70-80% of their taxes/have offices over seas/factories right over the border. They **** the country and grow fat off the profit while we lose all our jobs. You should not have to work 70+hours a week to be able to drive a car and live in a home. Its bullshit.

Nor should have to be in deep fear of getting sick; or be forced to walk around with an infected tooth out of fear of going into debt for years.

Beyond that. Having a president who is open to speaking with anyone is refreshing. The arrogant, hollier-than-thou attitude we've had is a great way to become isolated from the world at large and to become an object of hate.

We've gone from being a country people whisper about in awed amazement/dream about visiting to one that half the world sees as a disgrace. McCain looks to me like he'd carry us on the same path. Obama looks like he'd be willing to help us evolve past our state of arrogance.

And just on a serious note: Jax you were a woman who made money showing her vag and tits off and getting fucked by ugly dudes on cock brutality. Do you seriously want a right-wing religious fanatic in office legislating your morality?

Let's not get too personal, kids.

    Back to politics . . .

I think one of the biggest problems with healthcare is that it is the people in the middle, who are really trying to take care of themselves, who get hit the hardest.

Obviously, people who are rich are covered.

People with high end corporate jobs are covered for a while, but with no security. Try getting laid off from a high end corporate job some time and look at what you'd have to come up with to continue coverage. Let the coverage lapse and you won't be able to get new coverage for any pre-existing conditions.

Nonetheless, I know plenty of people who get free healthcare, courtesy of Uncle Sam. Some of them really can't take care of themselves and maybe a compassionate society should be, ya know, compassionate. Most of them, however, are strippers and drug dealers and dominas who simply do not declare any of their earnings and thus qualify for free healthcare. This may be largely indicative of the pool of people I come across and not the overall welfare system, but it does kind of bum me out when I'm all freaked out about paying some medical bill and someone who gets that for free tells me I should pay higher rates for artsy nude modeling.

The people who get really screwed on healthcare are the ones who have gotten off their asses and want very very badly to take care of themselves. Yes, if medical expenses exceed 15% of your yearly income, I think they become deductible, but, uhm, wow, that is just great.

Medical care was incidentally far more affordable before the insurance industry reared its ugly opportunistic head to "help" pay for everything.

My gynecologist (because I live in Southern Cali) was recently asked to go on Bill Maher to talk about his view that health insurance should be handled like car insurance where everyone has basically catastrophic insurance. For example, if you wreck your car, you look to your insurance company, but, if it needs new tires, you suck it up and come up with the dough or drive on bald ones.

The health insurance industry has only been around for a few decades and countries which don't have our health insurance system don't have our absurdly expensive pricing and they also don't have all the nonsense about who is allowed to visit you in the hospital either.

I unfortunately had reason to look into medical tourism this past year and, in Thailand for example, you can pay to have your loved ones near you while you go through and recover from surgery.

In the USA, you are lucky if you can tell them what they may and may not do to you. I find that not having insurance is helpful there. I just point out that, if I don't consent, good luck getting paid for it and they are a lot less interested in forcing me to do anything I do not want done to my body.

my political reality was built from serving my country for 20 years and seeing how it works from the inside out... i had (well till have) a high enough security clearance to know a few things...

there is a lot of information that the general public does not have available to them to help make a decision... most people do vote based on skewed fact and the medias portrayal of candidates...

everyone forgets that there is no such thing as fair or balanced reporting anymore...the media conglomerates have shareholders and boards of directors, must make a profit and need advertising revenue... basically news has become a money making business... report the wrong thing and advertisers threaten to pull their ads... million dollars at a time or more...

Obama's first campaign ad right after the DNC convention had a blatant lie in it...

he claims to have helped pass the new law on veterans heath care... he forgets to mention he was not in the senate that day and was one of ONLY 6 senators that did not vote on that... not that the rest of the candidates aren't going to lie to the public:

About 46 seconds into the ad, we are told that Obama “passed laws” that “extended healthcare for wounded troops who’d been neglected,” and in the usual manner of these political commercials we are given a little citation at the bottom. The citation reads “Public Law 110-181 1/28/08”. That law is the only federal legislation cited in the ad — the other two items mentioned were from the Illinois legislature and referred to other issues raised in the ad.

Public Law 110-181 was the 2008 defense appropriations bill. It passed the Senate by 91 to 3 in January, with six Senators not voting. Among those six absentees was Barack Obama. So he cites a bill he didn’t even vote for.

if you didn't do some research you might not know that and think he actually supports our troops... and of course my research could be wrong as well because the interweb is full of lies and half truths...

hell i hate politics and politicians... most of them only care about what is good for them... from 1990 to 2003 the Senate voted multiple times to increase their salary from $98,400 (1990) to $154,700 (2003)... now it is $169,300... and they no longer have to vote on an increase! they only have to vote if they don't want the raise... it's automatic now every year. hell i want to vote my self a raise... After 20 years in the military my pay was $43,116 before taxes, when i joined i was paid $7296 before taxes. both Congress and the Senate constantly voted against military pay raises while giving themselves raises... makes me a little jaded... politicians care about politicians for the most part...

don't mistake my rant... i'm not a McCain supporter either... i'm more of a Libertarian than anything else

i enjoy other peoples opinions, i learn from what other people think, i research what other people say and sometimes it changes my points of view (i will never admit it of course)... i despise people that are hard headed and will not at least listen...

... and i too will fight to the death to support everyone's right to an opinion... as a matter of fact i have fought to protect everyone's freedom... i just managed not to get killed...

If i was american id be scared to vote for McCain, cos if he drops dead from a heart attack during a rage attack, Palin becomes president. She seems as clueless as Dan Quail (remember him)

We have (sort of) free healthcare in Australia, A lot of stuff isnt covered by public health, eg dentists, ambulances, etc. You have a choice to pay for your own private insurance or join the waiting lists on the public system. Its the basic that are covered, my taxes pay for the public healthcare, i dont care about that, ive been unemployed in the past and i consider my taxes when i worked paid for me in the past or future when im not working or retired.
id rather my taxes paid for some "lazy" unemployed person than be wasted on the military

In the book/film Catch-22 there's an old Italian man who asks an American soldier what makes you think America will be great forever. He's talking about how the Roman Empire fell...and all great "empires" fall.
Maybe this election and recession/depression will be the beginning of the end for another empire

oh yes, we wouldn't want a candidate that didn't support the troops. We can't have that now, where would we be without a hundred years war in Iraq?

oh yeah, about 700 billion dollars less in debt and a few thousand less bodies. throwing away money and piling up American corpses, yeah, that's what you call patriotic? but I guess it's a small price to pay for Dick Cheney's pension right?

I hate this condescending shit, you didn't fight for my fucking freedom. you fought for the people that pose the only real threat to it.

That wasn't really directed at you Jonny. I know you're a smart guy. that was directed against the rhetoric that only serves one thing which is to divert people away from actually thinking and doing the research that you called for.

At one point in my early teens I was actually thinking of converting to Muslim. But it was kinda hard to do when Im pretty athiest about it all;]

I'm not putting words in your mouth with this, I'm just curious what on Earth would possess anyone with a vagina to vote for that woman.
Some views I agree with. Many I dont. I like empowered women, even if I dont agree with them. Plus, its not as if she herself is running as president and I think the chances are very slim that she would ever hold that power. Her views dont terrify me too much considering she would be vice president and anything she trys to pass has to go through a Dem house.

I guess lack of experience, belonging to a racist church, and wife who hates america are the biggest things. No military experience as well. Not to mention I really dont think he will last that long if he does get into office, but I could be wrong. Plus hes a socialist and for more government, and I REALLY dislike the more government stance. More taxes for businesses means driving the costs up for the consumers, you and me, so they can give non workers healthcare and give more money to the lazy welfare milkers. That and he wants to start diplomatic relations with rogue terrorist supporting states. He doesnt want to drill American oil, which leaves us still dependant on the middle east and high gas costs. He is going to make bad, inexperienced decisions on foreign affairs and is completely unfit to be the Commander in Cheif of the armed forces. Quite frankly, I feel as though hes more worried about taking care of the lazy and illegal immigrants instead of supporting winning the war and helping us out of this recession. Hes going to give Iran all the power in the Middle East and start diplomatic relations with them so we can keep feeding off their oil, not to mention he has NO idea about foreign affairs.

And BF- Thanks, I think;p and Ill try not to, haha.

The lazy welfare milkers already have their healthcare paid for, under the current system.

    Sometimes I wish I was;p

You pretty much hit the nail on the head. And trust me, I hate Republicans (or what they have become). But I still dont think Obama can take this mess and turn it around. If it were Hillary that had got the nomination, I would have hands down voted for her. Since I know if I vote Ind. or Green itll just be a throwaway vote, and right now I got to hope that America makes the right decision one way or the other. Because the way this all turned out really blows. I think McCain is different enough from Bush as per his voting records that I think he has the right idea. And unfortuneately no matter what party is in office, the fat cats will always be taken care of.

But I cant afford my med bills...why the hell should I have to pay for some lazy ass to go into the ER for a cold?
In America, we are constantly told that we only get to have healthcare if we have insurance or welfare and that is just not true. It just takes more effort and a willingness to be treated a bit like a freak.

I had to get skin cancer surgery this year and it actually costs a lot less than you would expect. It's not one of those six figure kind of internal cancers. You can probably look in your local city paper/weekly type publication and call dermatology clinics which advertise in there and find one who can look at you and remove possible cancers for a reasonable price. Tell them you are a cash patient and do not have insurance and they may be able to give you a break in price because they won't have to do all the expensive insurance paperwork. You'll probably pay a minimum of $150 for the exam and more than that if they determine your skin looks concerning and more still if you have a lot which needs to be removed. But it is simple outpatient surgery and payment plans are often available. You can die from untreated skin cancer, so please get it checked out.

Ya know, it actually kind of bugs me that some folks act like they should never have to pay anything whatsoever for medical care. I know women who think nothing of dropping $60 at MAC but would never pay for the dermatologist unless their work's health insurance covered it. Even if the dollar amount were exactly the same.

I was directing that advice to Jax specifically. She has lived in both Arizona and California, which are both states with higher-than-average incidence of skin cancer. Jax is a capable person who can come up with a way to get $150, even if it is a struggle. Heck, she could pretty easily probably sell BlueBlood.com some photo sets, if we are being specific.

A few hundred dollars is a pretty low price to pay in order to not die.

Lastly, the problem with healthcare in America is that someone who does not have even $150 will probably get their cancer treated for free, even if it is the six figure surgery dealio. Someone like Jax, who is working, will not get it for free. Being a little more in debt or strapped for a few months is still better than being dead though. I mean, in most cases.

No matter what your stance is though, can anyone actually say our Healthcare system in America is swell? It sucks and has sucked big time for years now and only gets worse with every passing year. Every election each candidate states what their gonna do to improve it, but after the election is over the candidate who does win doesn't seem to do a fuckin' thing.

I don't think healthcare should be free, but even WITH insurance, we're screwed if it's something more than just a cold. I don't know how many times I saw loans turned down because people have big collections from hospitals that they could not pay so they had to file bankruptcy. These are people where both husband and wife worked and had health insurance.

Something just isn't right when you live in the country that is supposed to be the "super-power", yet you're screwed when it comes to the healthcare system of said country.

And don't even get me started on the pharmaceutical companies. What they charge is mind-boggling. And how is it possible that doctors can get kickbacks by pushing the pharmaceutical companies drugs. Shouldn't that be against the law? I think we are a nation of medication because doctors love pushing drugs at us because of the kick backs. I mean, I go to the doctors because I have a cold and I walk out with 6 different prescriptions to get filled. WTF? Are you really telling me that's all necessary?

Maybe she should find better work. And get rid of her car and take public transportation. Having a car is a priveledge, not a right. Get a cheaper apartment or find a roommate, eat non brand name foods, drink nothing but water, the list goes on and on. But since you said she works two jobs and can barely afford rent, me thinks its sounds like your girlfriend is living beyond her means.

Ok, do you comprehend? Get off their lazy asses and go work is applied to those who will not get off their lazy asses and go work. So if someone is working, what I said obviously doesnt apply to them, now does it? Dont worry, I dont expect a response to that.

I can see the scar every time I put on eyeliner, although it is less noticeable now than it once was, thankfully.

I am well aware that not all non-workers are on welfare. You mentioned that a new system would give free healthcare to the "lazy welfare milkers" and I was just pointing out that the current system already does that. I entirely agree that not everybody is a "lazy welfare milker" of course.

People keep talking about universal insurance and suchlike, but insurance IS the source of the problem. It is just a legalized protection racket and we know those are not really to protect anybody. If we did not have insurance to supposedly help out those of us who were sufficiently inside the system, then doctors and hospitals would have to charge reasonable rates, rates people could pay or they would be out of business, like any business. In addition, when you look at countries where people do pay for healthcare, there tends to be a lot more respect for the patient as the actual customer, plus a lot more options to make a hospital stay less dehumanizing and unpleasant.
