Default Fun and Cool cities to visit? Where do you have fun?

Hey folks, I wanted to check in and see where some fun places to visit might be. Got any suggestions? Some places with a good social/shopping district for rockin' type people. Possibly with a decently cool nightlife as well. I love visiting new places sometimes and I'm itching to see someplace new, but I hate going places only to hear how they used to be cool, etc. What's going on lately? I'm leaning towards continental U.S., but that's not a requirement.

I'm thinking about possibly visiting D.C., maybe Philadelphia, not sure. I've really enjoyed Minneapolis. Any suggestions?

Just cool places to trip around town in the daytime and have a fun time at night and maybe meet some cool folks along the way.

Mexico City...it's unlike any other city in the world. It's not as much of a culture shock as many think either...it's not "american" so to speak but it's not some 3rd world hellhole...it's a Megalopolis in the truest sense (the city is just friggin massive) and the variety of scenes, lifestyles, and people make it the kind of place you can wander around in (a guide is needed if you don't have friends, family, or associates there) that you can spend each day without it feeling like the one before.

Sure it's noisy and polluted...but it's the only place where you can see Aztec temples on your way to dinner. Needless to say...it's kinda surreal.

I've always had a good time in Chicago, won't be so damn cold now...... Houston has some decent places to go to. The Missouri side of Kansas City has a lot of really cool places

Well I would suggest to you the Detroit scene for nightlife, but for some cool daytime thrills/shopping the neighboring areas are better and safer. Royal Oak sports Noir Leather and lots of great thrift/second hand stores. And downtown Pontiac has great clubs ,theatres and galleries. Some pretty cool eateries as well. It's local to me so of course I like it, but everyone that comes from out of town seems to enjoy it as well.

Well, I've never really been to too many cities that I thought were cool, so I'll just talk about my hometown. Honestly, I think Cleveland is really good. They have a few independant stores that sell goth clothing and others that sell music. There's really only one goth club though, but they usually play pretty decent music. I know there are a lot of small clubs that give concerts for local goth/industrial bands, but I don't go to those too often. I know this is probably kind of lame compared to other cities, but it's really all I've experienced.

Keep meaning to do that. After all I'm 20-30 miles away, not too bad... I was only 18 in January though so yeah.

Can you name any particularly good clubs to check out? I've heard both good and bad about Slimelight which is supposed to be quite popular..

I LOVED Toronto!! great city. Some wonderful neighborhoods. Only spent a few days there on vacation, but wanted to move there after. It's kinda like NYC except clean and polite. Everything there was wonderful. Artists, skaters, punks, dj's, hippies, freaks, goths, etc. Are working doing what they love from what I saw and the people I met at least.

Been to New Orleans, it was exceedingly cool.

Having grown up in the Bay Area, this wouldn't be a complete discussion of cool cities without a mention of San Francisco. There are just soo many cool things to do there. It's true the bars close at two, but there's lots of after hours clubs that go all night. I haven't lived there full time in over twenty years, but I'm sure you can find plenty of fun stuff in berkeley, SF, or Oakland.

Yes! Go to Camden. The market there is really...really...really...wallet defying. I love it. I never made it to Slimelight (got sick that night) but I'm told by London-Goth's that its pretty bad-ass. Mostly Industrial from what I understand.

Here's a link to London goth clubs:

    http://www.the-dreaming.demon.co.uk/clubs.htm

When I was there last year, my friends took me to the Devonshire Arms, which is a Goth Pub, and it was really quite enjoyable. I liked the drinks, and the bartender with Cruella D'ville hair.

Also! If you are taking a day trip, you should go up and visit Westgate and East Gate Cemetary, which are both about 2 tubestops up from Camden. Its a VERY cool way to pass an afternoon. Take a camera!!!

NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! Its a death trap! Lol. There is little to no music scene there, crappy clubs, and the only night you can actually find something to do is Fri nights...and ALL the damn clubs are on that night. Why do you think so many drunks and drug addicts live there, theres nothing else to do. Plus the summers are KILLERS. But that could be just because I lived there 12 years. It fucking SUCKS!

Its good seeing another horse person here;] My stallion I just sold to a gal in AZ and my other two are in Houston. *sigh* so far away! But I have to give Phoenix credit for being incredibly cheap to live in...if you can find a job and stand the heat. You really dont even get to ride most of the summer, Ive seen horses drop dead from heat, and that was just walking them around. I would go out at 5am, and Id be sweating already. Its bad, but then some parts of TX you have the humidity, which makes it just as bad. Sheesh;]

well compared to NY and LA everywhere is cheap to live in. There are people that are like whoa, I can get a one berdroom apt for 600 a month!? what a deal! around here it's like how about a semi-upscale 3 bedroom for 700.

I hate Houston for the humidity....... also it smells like gasoline when you get off of the plane. For me it's better than Dallas, seriously I'm allergic to that city.

baltimore? there is bearly anything here anymore (well, not right now). well, if your into lame dance clubs, ESPN zone/sports bars, or redneck counrty bars. baltimore has waves of bands and clubs that come and go it seems.

OC can bite my fuckin' crank! last time i was down there (about 10 years ago) i was harassed by 8-10 cops and wanted to charge me with have a "martial arts weapon" aka a spike braclet. i might have not been so pissed off if it wasn't for the fact that i was by myself and with no one else.

philly is kool but if you are going east coast anyway i would reserve philly for a weekend when they are having a "dracula's ball" event...i think theydo it on most major holidays...

boston is kool b/c there is plenty of places to walk around all day(and being a smaller city you can make a plan of attack and walk from one thing to the next)... although i admit the last time i did city day stuff up there it was almost all in cambridge...which is almost the same thing
