Depends on what mood you're in ...

Horror: um, email me and we'll talk about sub-genres
    Thriller: Cube
Drama: Breaking the Waves (don't watch it if you're already in a shitty mood!)
Action: Um ..... Dawn of the Dead (remake) is a pretty good action flick!
    Comedy: Shaun of the Dead

    Night & Fog

    Fellini's 8 1/2

    Chaplin's City Lights

and last but not least...anything by the Marx Brothers

Stuff I'd be in the mood to watch right now, if I had it on DVD: Body Double, Poltergeist, Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original), and Fade To Black (Dennis Christopher as a psychotic movie geek who becomes obsessed with Marilyn Monroe look-a-like Linda Kerridge...early Mickey Rourke appearance in there, too...).

Screw it, I'm putting on Taxi Driver.

    That is too true
I liked the editing in that flick, but never watched it all the way through because I just couldn't care about anyone in it.

Yeah it's not a film one can get all that attached to in terms of characters...we all know the junkie story. The whole theme of addiciton was nice but it gets tiresome.

It kinda reminds me of the directors other film "Pi"...obsession and self destruction...though if you watch it more than once it feels so silly and over the top it's hard to take it serious.

I just watched The Last Samuri last night. Hot movie for sure, and is the best thing Tom Cruise has put under his belt lately-- including Penelope Cruz!

I don't know if that is a big compliment or not 'cause I just do not get the appeal of Penelope Cruz.

Of course, I think Risky Business is the best Tom Cruise flick ever. Darkside meets teen sex romp with a dash of organized crime. Make of that what you will.

Miss Cruz doesn't do it for me either, she reminds me of this hooker that use to stand around a pizza shop I worked in when I was 14. That hooker was actually a man. Makes me question if Miss Cruz is just post-op... who knows.

I've never really been a big fan of Tom Cruise, but thanks for reminding me about Risky Business! Whenever I think of him, I think TopGun. Eek.

    LMAO!!! wow...
    Movies I like:
    May (that movie is disturbing)
    Event Horizon
    American History X
House of 1000 Corpses (poor plot, excellent filming)

Pretty much anything excessively gory and violent, I enjoy.

Requiem for a Dream was good mostly because I really REALLY want to recreate that ass to ass degradation sex scene, dark porno style with ill-lit men in powersuits throwing dollars and talking dirty.

    Pecker is good.
Eternal Sunshine made me cry and miss people in a good way.
Certain scenes in horror flicks that otherwise sucked a bunch, like the self mutilation of the girlfriend locked in the storage closet in Night of the Living Dead 3.
Girl on a Bridge ment something to me for a while.
    I have Falling Down days.
The Hunger, because I'm a cheeseball and will forever be in love with DB, and doves in flight and thoughts of growing old with him.
    Wings of Desire.

..and one of my all time favorites that brings me back, cheers me up and fills me with nostalgia is Dogs in Space.

I love the scene in Falling Down where he is rolling back prices with a baseball bat and then pays for his purchase because it is about the principle.

Well, i've seend BR, but i'm european, and we get to see the good asian stuff way before the americans (Just take "Hero" for example, they're still waiting for a cinematic release).

Wicker Man - great, great film with a superb score. I just love it...

Series 7 - Arr, how could I forget that one

And as for Shaun... : Simply wow, i loved it from beginning to end. I've been a fan of Simon Pegg since i've seen Spaced for the first time, but SotD exceeded all my expectations...

Actually not true. Various big cinema towns like L.A., NYC, Austin, etc. get these films pretty quick...the diffrence is that usually we end up getting them twice.

First time is usually the Subtitled Version that tours the Art House scene. Second Time is usually the Dubbed Version that hits the major theatres.

Hero is a simple case of QT grabbing the domestic rights (He did the same with a few other flicks) and getting it the attention it deserves. This is a rarity...9 out of 10 times Asian flicks play in various types of venues shortly after their Asian debut. Lately some have even had their world premiers in U.S. Theatre's...very odd to say the least. I remember the Anime film Metropolis had it's premire in L.A.

A really nice offshoot of this is that U.S. audiences tend to get better prints of MANY asian films. I remember going to a screening of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon that screened a print from Asia...it was quite good...but when Sony Classics grabbed it and did it's number on it...WOW...very big change. Other times I've seen this happen was with screenings of Chungking Express, In The Mood For Love, Hard Boiled, Iron Monkey, Magnificent Butcher, The Killer, and Angel Eyes.

I import a alot of asian films on DVD long before the U.S. versions come out...and the U.S. versions always tend to look and sound better. This is not to say European versions suck...not at all. But a lot of the times the versions floating around are from the asian masters...not the U.S. ones. A real shame too.

Luckily with U.S. companies snatching up the rights to MANY Asian films great versions should be floating around more and more.

Like other major cities though L.A. has a large Asian community...so I really only have to go down the street to get the latest Asian films. The DVD's tend to have english subtitles (some suck of course but it's enough to understand) and I saw Hero not long ago. The copy I rented was very nice...can't wait to see the U.S. release.

We're covered pretty well here in the States in terms of Asian Cinema...and world cinema really. Though it pissess me off I can see obscure Swedish films easier then I can Mexican ones.
