Thread: Hidden Treasure...

  1. #1

    Default Hidden Treasure...

Things i learned & found while gardening in my yard....

1: Digging red clay soil is more work than it should be.
2: After an hour of digging a woodpecker came to say hi.
    3: I found a top to a catfood jar.
4: 2 garden snakes decided to say hello too!
    5: i dug up a walking cane
6: I unearthed a weird looking worm so i decided to google it..it turns out its a rare breed called Land Planarian and is harmful to gardens. They eat earthworms and are extremely rare in GA...GET OUT OF MY GARDEN! Hrm..maybe i can sell it on ebay.
7: A frog jumped into my garden while i was diggin.
8: 10 minutes later i found the catfood jar.
9: I dug up a 40 pound cement cylinder.....um...ok.. it had no purpose.
    10. After digging in the hot sun all day and feeling acomplished...it thunderstorms 5 minutes later and becomes a pool of red clay. FUCK!

Any hidden treasure youve found while gardening..?

Wasn't gardening, but dinking off with a buddy of mine in our little hideout when we were young; found a bunch of old, thick glass cobalt blue bottles and a metal Hellman's mayonaise lid, lol.

Otherwise, sadly I haven't had that many niffy unearthings. Definitely an interesting worm you dug up there.. never seen one myself. Cool stuff!

digging around and under my house just gets me garbage and wierd things that the previous owners obviously thought would work for draining the ground water, so basically just more proof to me that they were all a bunch of retards

When I lived in St Klahd we were trying to dig out my mom's old buick that had sunk in hte mud and we came up with ...well, the contents of a 1970's landfill that the house was built on.

While digging to plant my mom's ficus at her place on hte beach we found out that the previous owners had their own pet cemtery. *creepy*

and here at my mom in law's place we found ALOT of snakes in the yard. that's about it.

and I'm wiht Karl on the Kill the Worm thingy. EWW! It looks slimy.

those worms you find require high levels of humidity in order to survive. since they can't survive in the soil during periods of extreme temperature (summer, winter) they usually live inside of logs or peices of wood and debris. In other words, if you have them, then it's your own fault for leaving materials around that they can live in.

they do eat earthworms. however unless you are breeding worms for compost to use as organic fertalizer then it really has nothing to do with you. most typical earthworms don't produce any fertalizer so there isn't much a difference between them and the planarians, other then that the planarians eat other plant eating creatures, which will be more harmful to your garden then they are. If you are using some miracle grow shit, it will probably kill all the worms anyway, reguardless.

your best bet would be to get rid of any things that the planarians can live in and dig up the soil, exposing them to the light. this will be better for your garden anyway, as you should know as a grower. at this point esp, in the south, birds will probably come and eat them and birds are good for gardens too, cuz they shit and drop seeds.

i'd also suggest going to a psychologist and find out if you have issues with your childhood or something, because the desire to want to kill animals for no apparent reason seems to me an issue of low self esteem and or/ anger psychosis.

i was digging the foundations to a new patio when i unearthed a Mr.Spock figure that i had buried like 10 years previously... this was one of the original startrek action figures, the clothes had rotted off it, and i remember being bummed out at 'losing' it when i was a kid.

man if i'd kept those figures in decent condtion I'D be rich...

    oh well...
