    Default name that mental illness

my brain has somehow become a juke-box for random audio samples. anything can set it off, and the results are often bewildering.

recently i was introduced to a guy named Timothy. immediately - centred perfectly between my ears, in stereo - that old guy who owns a cat named Timothy, from the 1951 Warner Brothers cartoon "Chow Hound", saying "Whoah, I see you've caught another mouse, Timothy. Well, you've earned your keep... mmm, earned it."

a few days ago i saw a usenet post from my friend in Finland, Kristian Lahdensuo. bam, straight away, Frank Zappa's "Satuuma (Finnish Tango)", all three minutes and fifty seconds of it.

last night on SBS, Silvio Rivier showed a short film about the town in Germany where Hoehner Harmonicas are made. EVERY TIME someone blew a harmonica, my brain repeated a pseudo-musical phrase from, jesus god, Spike Jones' "Man on the Flying Trapeze" - "Doodles" Weaver playing a harmonica chord, singing a note as if tuning himself to the harmonica, followed by a cow-bell rattle.

    i CAN'T TURN IT OFF.

It's entirely natural, just some individuals (and at some periods) notice it more than others.

The cognitive mapping of memories is by associative grouping - your brain links fragments of memory by using others it already has, to build a bridge. In your case, it has decided, maybe a little more than in the past, that music figures in the connection process. If you think about the trigger event, and the music that it triggers, then there WILL be a link, even if it's a vague one.

Unfortunately there's no way to control associative groupings - if I say "orange" you cannot help but recall the fruit, the color, the county, the juice and the chemical warfare agent. Different people have them in a different order of priority, but once you address one element in a group the others are brought to your conscious mind every time.

and before anyone says "synesthesia", that requires the music to be heard, not remembered. Synesthetes are convinced the music is coming in via their ears, not floating about in their brains.

Wow, that's quite interesting. I'm afraid I can offer no advice, but I remember that used to happen to me about two years ago. Though, the jingles were only 30 seconds long, about. It lasted about 6 mths.

i want you to find the shittiest, stupidest AM radio station in your region, strap two radios to the sides of your head, turn them on and then snap off the volume controls so you can't turn them off. then cuff your hands behind your back and ENJOY THE HARMONY.

did you study piano as a child .. did you play , or do you play any instruments..
do you write your own sheet music .?

I think your being haunted by Frank Zappa's ghost, that or he moved into the left frontal section of your brain just to finish writing some unfinished music.
OR ,, you gotten some bad Vegemite, the jar some put 2 hits of real 225 into .OR.......

Any case sounds like what Frank Zappa had ,he would visualize sounds and some sounds would make him think of other ,movies ,pictures ,showtunes, music,he's seen or heard as a child , and as he was growning up..

But i heard not sleeping for like 3 days and then sleeping for 4 hours and getting up an writing music ,or doing art , for the next 16 hours ,,and then sleeping for 4 hours and doing it allover again for a month will do that to you..
take 2 valuim every 4 hours and sleep for a day ,OR watch the Dangermouse
    works for me

well. the funny thing about the Australian medical system at the moment, is.. they don't like to prescribe painkillers or sedatives. because they are concerned about people becoming addicts. a lot of medicos have signs on their doors stating "WE WILL NOT PROVIDE SCRIPTS FOR PAINKILLERS". they are more than happy to hand out antibiotics, though; they're hard to sell because they're losing their effectiveness, as new strains of resistant bacteria evolve.

ah well. back to my home-made prozac.

    .. needs more ice-cream.

Not to mention smells, colors etc.

But back to the question at hand mG is entirely correct. The human brain is an amazing and very odd thing.

worst part, is - no manual. imagine how far you'd get if you had to try to work out Windows by trial and error.
