I was a 90's kid I USED TO (its been years) make hemp jewelry and hair wraps.i was pretty good at it too and I used to draw out peoples names all pretty like on cardstock..I sold all of my makings at a local saturday hippie market... Then I scrapbooked for a while ...I haven't done anything in a long time.
Im currently making a Combichrist gauntlet for a craft swap on another forum. The person's fav. band and jewelry is combichrist and gauntlets. So Im not done with it totally, but it's all handpainted on leather. I've still got to add side stitching and something else to it..dont know what yet.
Then of course, I make goggles and hair. One of my favorite pieces we make is the Neko wig.
i knit. obesssively. right now i'm making my husband a freddy krueger sweater (cause he asked me if i'd make him one!), but it's almost too hot to knit with wool. I also just finished knitting the cutest garter ever with ribbon lace-up sides. I also make some of my own clothes, seeing what i can do starting with a basic pattern and modding it, and i do stuff with our furniture (ie, sanding and painting with stuff like old school tat designs on my sewing station)
I love to knit and hand felt- at the moment I am making a number of felted cloche hats and scarves. I like embellishing things also with wools, felted bits, beads ect.
Also a little bit of chain making, I made a Halberd for a mate once, it turned out good but when you have made something like that it puts you off making anything in the same way for a while (time consuming!)
And Currently making custom Ear stretchers with Femo and hard woods.
I'm curious...any of you folks sell your crafts as well? Or do you do it just for fun?
I made a business out of it. It pays the bills, better than corporate jobs IMO.
I get aroundabout 15-20 orders a week. Doesnt sound like much, but the pay is good at an average of $100 - $120 an order.
that and im still tryin to get back into my art (pencil),and Pastels some charcoal .been thinkin of a new project makin stuff with all the old computer parts i have lieing about .but love that theres peeps that craft some really cool stuff here .all very nice
I am always troubled by questions like this, because from an early age I wanted to be able to create things, to make backpacks out of gunny sacks and dangerous weapons out of sewing machine needles. I have achieved only moderate success, though I think fucking with music and found instruments (pots, pans, 55-gallon oil drums) used to really satisfy a lot of my crafting urges. Nothing is quite as satisfying as recording a 20-minute percussion assault as rendered on an old 5-gallon Arrowhead bottle, six milk jugs and a sledgehammer.
Nowadays, for craft fun, I mostly spank. I attempt to make pretty patterns and marvel at the rising redness. That, and photography which, while when digital is mostly viritual, also requires the building of sets and costumes, sometimes... that can be really fun.
That, and web design stuff, but admittedly anything virtual seems to not quite fulfill the need for physical-world artistic expression, which I think is the whole point of the craft compulsion.
Occasionally I haul out the scrapbook and try to create a masturpiece out of sketches and clippings.
I used to take apart my toys and my parents kitchen appliances and use the parts to make all kinds of gadgets. Sometimes they even worked. Now I use my skills for slightly less constructive things. I like anything that goes BANG.
