That movie was way more entertaining that I expected. I am not a bug fan of "those types" of movies in general, and was going for the purpose of getting to hang out with friends and whatnot. However I had a great time and I think because my expectations were low I enjoyed it more than some of the folks who had high exxpectations. Angelina's body was looking epically hot but her face was a little un-human for me, and by that I mean there wasn't enough texture left in it. I know it was all CG but it was still a little smooth for my preferences.

I know what you mean. My friend kept telling me that it was her modeled from live action- but I kept seeing that photo that is all over the net of her coming out of water or something from Tomb Raider (I think). It's that plastic look she had- (yet still beautiful). It was a bit odd- the rest of the characters had TEXTURE and even wrinkles, facial hair that was done superbly, etc- even pores in their skin.
It was awesomely done CG- but I agree with ya.

I thought the CGI was oddly variable. Some shots looked stunningly ultra-realistic and some looked kind of first draftish. I kind of think Angelina needed one more little fold between her legs not to look silly and Barbie Doll, but maybe my taste would have gotten it an X. Hard to say really. The 3D really made the film in my opinion though, and it would really not be quite the same experience without it.

I agree with pretty much everything Amelia said and want to throw my two cents in.
I haven’t read the Epic of Beowulf since high school, and honestly I barely remember reading it at all but I do remember struggling to stay focused on the archaic poetry about long the long dead king and his assorted tales of daring. I’m from a generation raised watching the epics. I grew up with Charelston Heston bringing down the Ten Commandments, Lou Ferrigno dealing with the Augean stables, and now Ray Winstone doing a much better job than Christopher Lambert did in completely different Beowulf.
It’s alot easier to pay attention to ancient epic hero’s when they are motion captured computer rendered badasses flying through the air killing dragons, despoiling maidens and stuff in 3D. Sure they left out about thirty years of story but apparently that’s going to be the stuff the video game is based on. English teachers rejoice!
It’s been awhile since I walked out of a movie and didn’t immediately start nitpicking it, but I honestly have nothing to complain about. It had action, romance, a giant beautifully rendered dragon, and a Angelina Jolie in nothing but computer generated golden liquid latex.
I was a bit leery about the whole 3D shtick since the last time I saw something outside of an IMAX it was "LollyPop girls in Hard Candy" in the Red-Blue eyeglasses crap with a startlingly vivid and unsurprisingly obligatory "It's comming right at you" moneyshot from John "The Big Wad" Homes. That's a sight that doesn't leave you alone at nights.
This new 3D uses only marginally goofy looking 3D glasses (good thing it’s dark in theaters) and creates a polarizing effect that gives you a depth of field into the screen, making far objects actually seem further away. Yes there were the “It’s coming right at us moments” and while most of them weren’t anything spectacular there were a few surprises that were well worth the price of admission.
