    Default Telemarketing...

Don't you just hate those people?

I now know what its like to be one, as I was recently hired as a "Sales Rep" at a telefundraising place. You get some irate people, and you get some awesome drunkards.

I used to be one that sold newspapers sales.
Worst job ever, but I tried to make it interesting.

    Woman: Hello? (sniff sob)

Me: Hi...um..did I catch you at a bad time?

Woman: I'm fine (sob) Can i ask who's calling?

Me: Oh., I'm a rep from your newspaper asking if you'd like to try a subscription..

Woman: Oh, Im (sob) really sorry. I thought you were from the church as my husband just died.

Me: Oh, im sorry to hear that...would you like to buy a subscription to read about his obituary?

    Woman : (click)

And my second best call ever:

Guy (in a howdy do! kinda voice): HELLO?!

Me: Hi. Im calling to see if your interested in a newspaper subscription for the low low price of 29.99 a month.

Guy: Well hot cakes! I'm sitting on the crapper right now wondering what to read next! I'll take one!

Easiest sale ever. A few days later i up and walked out though, telemarketing is just horrible.

I love my job, maybe its just because I'm new...but I love hearing that beep.

    And we fundraise haha.

"Hello can you here me ok? Fantastic, Well this is *my first and last name here*, and we're recording the call on behalf of the Washington State Council of Fire Fighters...How you doin' tonight pretty good?"

I really could type out my whole presentation, but I don't want to bore anyone.

I can't say anything about them, since my wife works in a call centre. She only takes incoming calls for a mobile telephone company.

I don't envy people that have to cold call people. It must be very stressful. If you do it, then kudos to you.

I recently walked out of a telemarketing place too, I'd been there a few weeks and figured out that I could make money by talking people into things, but the people who had been there for any amount of time were all obese and full of shit - so I bolted. A week later I land a job as a "Disaster Recovery Specialist" which amounts to going into burned out houses and buildings after a fire or flood to rescue anything that can be fixed and inventorying the rest so they can get the best deal from their insurance company. They pay me to travel all over the place , it's pretty good pay and I haven't had this much fun since the Strict9 punks and I used to hang out in all the abandoned rubber factories in Akron.

i don't even answer my cell phone most of the time.... of course, cause I work 3rd shift i'm usually sleeping when they call during the day anyway.

anyhoo, to get back on topic I had 2 roommates who worked for a call center once. They were really into it, so I guess they liked it.

I'll admit it... I'm awful... When I recognize the number coming up to be a telemarketers, I answer the phone with a variety of jack ass intro's... Like "Hookers and Blow... How may I blow you?" etc. Sometimes, I'll try to be nice and make it through it, but if it goes on too much after my initial, "Hey, I've got to go..." I will start faking a slur, and go "Sorry ma'am, I'm really too drunk to discuss anything finan*hic*fan*hic*financialllllalalay..." "But, it's 10am!" "Well, I've not gone to bed, yet..." Sometimes I will get a giggle before they hang up...

I feel for you man... I have had receptionist gigs in the past and being on the phone that much makes me sometimes want to spork myself in the eye... Much less, cold calling people... I know it takes a much stronger character than mine to do that...
