    Default Lolita Pop?

It's no secret that music labels are frantic to find the next Britney and Christina. Thing is they seem to keep signing younger and younger girls in hopes of molding them INTO the next pop diva as they mature.

While this is nothing new (hell Disney is BUILT on cultivating young stars) it is getting a bit disturbing. A woman exploring her sexuality in her music is one thing...but when you have someone under 16 doing that...it's kinda creepy. More so when they are marketed in the same way older female artists are. Some have argued that the "lolita" factor is very much exploited and pushed. The most famous of which was Britney's Catholic School girl look in her debut video.

Now...is the wrong morally? or is this a simple reality that was always there?

This topic came up while taking to some aunts and uncles since their girls are all in their early teens and they are finding it really hard to "draw a line" fashion and behaviour wise. It use to be as a kid we couldn't wait to do all the stuff adults do...now...by the time you hit 14 you CAN do all the stuff adults do. Hell Jr. High for me was where sex, drinking, and drugs started...thing is should this be an accepted norm? even it it is dominating pop culture to some degree?

It is all in the presentation.

Even a dung heap can seem inviting if presented properly.

The uk is really weird about stuff like this - S Club juniors (who are all between 10 and 14) sing about wanting to hold your body all night. This was really examined when Chris Morris did a Brass Eye special about paedophilia - a 'well known tabloid' did a fuming piece oppposite a picture of charlotte church's tits

ooooh the irony. they can go on about a 15 year old in lascivious terms, but a comedy program which intelligently puts our attitudes under the microscope is baaaad

    Long live Chris Morris

Yep, it's totally disgusting to make jokes about **********. It's a serious subject, yup. Phwoar, lookit them norks...

Didn't Charlotte Church get voted Best Bum in Britain when she was, like, 16? I don't know if that's more fucked up because this was at the height of the Paedo Terror or because she has a backside like a sofa cushion...

Asmo -- If you showed a little more confidence in your jokes, they might be funny. This bit where you dance around afterwards saying you made a joke is sort of nervous-making.

I know that lil line is weak....But I just cant stand having someone go off on a rant about how I am a pedofile....I find the act sickining...and it really pisses me off when ppl do that...and you never can tell who is gonna get offended and say some lame shit like that..

So thats my lil disclaimer...If you dont like it...Dont re-post about how you dont like it...

As Tequila Zaire says, if I may paraphrase it is hard to "draw the line." I was discussing with a friend how down south they still have raging problems with underage girls getting pregnant.

I spoke with a 19 year old fellow online once who was going to have sex with a 14 year old, which is legal in Canada, where he was. That same month a politician who worked with Jimmy Carter during his presidency (the one before Reagan) finally admitted of an affair, to his great personal shame apparently, with a 14 year old when he was holding office in his early forties.

Young girls have always been portrayed as the objects of desire. Ambition in women who do something else besides sell their looks and physical appearence, seems to still be a bad thing. While parents may encourage, society seems to say shake it and give us some of that sweet body ya got. I'm the father of a toddler who is a girl and I wonder what it will be like when she is grown.

Will it be worse? Will she have to say to herself: "Well, I guess with all the looks competition with girls I'll have to be the one that asserts my mental worth and accept that very few people will accept me."

The sad thing is it doesn't seem worse from years ago. In most states 16 (and even 15) was the legal age of consent. Now, a lot have statutes that assert that the age of consent must be 18 or that the individuals be within 48 months in age difference. Is it just a lack of love somewhere, maybe?

My little cousin is going to be 8 and she has the "diva" thing going . She wears low cut jeans, high heels and skimpy tops, it's amazing her mother buys this shit. I suppose children are easily swayed into whatever is "in", I mean most adults are, they are even more vulnerable. When I saw her Bratz dolls and listening to Usher. I thought it was kinda odd but it's not my child, just an observation. Times change I guess.

i dont think s club juniors are a good example because they are definately not like other bands, like they dont do these weird gyrating dances against the guys in the band or wear skimpy clothes.

Also Charlotte Church has an amazing voice and if we waited till she was 18 before she was allowed out into public then it would just be a waste shes song to the queen dont you know it's the medias fault for making these sexiest bum polls and showing pictures of them looking their best

it's easier to move with tem masses the tread water against it, you say " oh this is wrong" and yer made to be a whiny crying bleeding heart do gooder" the fact is there is a place and a time for everything, in this world of NOW with no Later or Future or Past We wann fuck NOW know everyhting NOW eat NOW be there here and everywhere else NOW. maybe right NOW we should all stop and look are around us at what is going on NOW in the world. In canad Young Girls who have kids get Mothers Allowance to help them feed the kid and so on and so forth and do all the RIGHT things for that young person. Usually that's not the case. As for teh Lolita thing, there has been movies and books and even porn dedicated to it. I think people are growning up to quick and their spirits are burning to fast I realized along time ago I am not going to be growing up anythime soon and that I know very little about the world around me but what i do know I know well. And Last but not Least Media needs to be conrtolled. We have teh right to say and think what we want...but when is a right aright and when is it just an abuse of a privelage?
