Dark triads: the bad boys who get the girls
Bad boys really do get the girls, according to new research.
This week's New Scientist says two studies in the US have found that men with antisocial personality traits are more likely to have a prolific sex life.
The so-called 'dark triad' traits include impulsiveness, narcissism, thrill-seeking and deceitfulness, it said.
One of the studies, a survey of 35,000 people in 57 countries, found a clear link between dark triad traits and the reproductive success of males.
"It is universal across cultures for high dark triad scorers to be more active in short-term mating," David Schmitt, of Bradley University in the United States, told the New Scientist.
"They are more likely to try and poach other people's partners for a brief affair."
Another study found that males who scored higher in the dark triad personality traits had a greater number of partners and a desire for short relationships.

If you look at the traits they are describing it is hardly a surprise.

Impulsiveness- They act without a lot of forethought. If you sit at the bar thinking for ten minutes if you are going to approach a girl, the impulsive guy already has.

Narcissism- While in the long run narcissism looks annoying, in the short run it looks like confidence.

Thrill seeking and deceitfulness - Means they are always trying and doing whatever it takes. Again, in the short term really handy.Like the old joke, ask ten women a day to fuck you. You will get slapped 9 times and fuck one woman a day.

I suspect if they examined women they would see a similar correlation.

One of the advantages for a woman dating a jerk is that she gets to be blameless. We still, as a society, have the notion that nice girls only "give it up" in a meaningful setting. If a guy is an obvious jerk, a girl can get off with him sexually and then, when the guy wanders off (because, as was already known, he is a jerk) the woman can be blameless for having sexual interaction without a relationship because the guy was the one who pumped and dumped.

So, not only are women attracted to jerky men, but men are also attracted to jerky women? Hmmm... And for the record, I'm not really a jerk.
