Dita Von Teese Stockings

Naughty Pinups reports that Dita Von Teese is doing a special branded collection of stockings with Secrets in Lace. Secrets in Lace specializes in nostalgic structured lingerie, such as fully fashioned stockings, so the synergy with retro superstar Dita Von Teese is obvious.

Forrest Black and I were at a friend’s housewarming party this past week and Dita came up in conversation with a burlesque promoter who has worked with her. All three of us have heard burlesque performers and models with Bettie bangs get all pissy about Dita and her success. There is an odd note of competitiveness there from the dancers who think somebody else should buy them a giant martini glass to splash in to the women who don’t work on their minds, their personalities, their careers, their style, or their bodies . . . but expect everyone around them to treat them like they are some combination of deity and physical perfection.

The thing about Dita is she earned what she has. For example, Forrest Black and I were supposed to shoot her for a magazine cover feature a while back. The sticking point was that the magazine articles were always about people who made clothing or costumes or something of that nature. Now, in point of fact, Dita and her stagecraft partner did sit there and spend hours gluing rhinestones onto things and making them fabulous for performances. I thought that was awesomely cool, but Dita is very conscious of branding, and doing crafts is not really part of the mysterious glamour of the Dita Von Teese brand. I was disappointed not to do that particular magazine cover and feature story, but Dita is very focused on creating and maintaining the right fantasy image and she is very good at it. Maybe we will shoot her for another magazine cover some day. I haven’t seen the Secrets in Lace stuff in person, so I can’t personally vouch for it, but I’m optimistic about any lingerie product Dita has associated her brand with.

I like stockings with backseams. I like a lot of noir novels and movies. And Secrets in Lace offers nostalgia-styled bras for the large-breasted as well.
