Andy LaPlegua is Scandinavian Cock

Andy LaPlegua Scandinavian CockI’ve been enjoying listening to a new Uncut EP just released from Andy LaPlegua’s punk band incarnation Scandinavian Cock. It’s in the vein of other great Scandinavian rough edged dirty glam Hanoi Rocks inspired punk bands like Backyard Babies or The Hellacopters, with that special blend of sleazy-pop flavor that subgenre does so well. It should come as no shock to anyone that Andy has a lot of divergent musical projects beyond Combichrist, Icon Of Coil, Panzer AG, and many many more, and this particular project is one of my new favorites. The four song Scandinavian Cock Uncut EP starts out with a rocking ode to the creepy girls we all know and love called “Undead Girls” and features a fun cover of The Dead Boys classic “Sonic Reducer” but the track with the most plays for me so far is the swaggering “Hell City.” Short previews are available on the Metropolis site. Electronic versions are available now, but if you want to pre-order the physical Uncut EP, it should be shipping early January.

Here is a video of Scandinavian Cock’s first public show, performing a song called “Dog-A-Bone” at the Highlander Atlanta, GA. As you can see, it has a very different feel from the more Dark Industrial work of Combichrist or Icon Of Coil, but still suits LaPlegua’s style comfortably. I’ve seen a couple of fun shows there and the Highlander does make some tasty Tater-Tots. I guess there may actually be a few things I miss about the South.
