A couple nights ago, I made cupcakes, for the first time since I was a kid. I learned that (a) there is a reason to have those little paper cups in there, (b) a popover pan is actually not as analgous to a cupcake pan as the uninitiated (i.e. me) might guess, and (c) there is almost nothing on earth as yummy as really fresh homemade vanilla butter cream frosting. Also, making delicious frosting is less scientific than a lot of cooking and really easy.
My cupcakes were not wearing little steampunk hats, however. The awesome Rachel Kramer Bussel reports on things like fancy steampunk cupcakes on her Cupcakes Take the Cake blog. Which makes the world a more pleasant place.
