I like NWA (when I can catch a trip to the coast on one of their smaller jets) The views are incredible. The pilot wheeled his guitar off as we deplaned. Dunno about the corporation. I'll be pissed if they move their hub from Minneapolis. Excellent pilots, good service though.

I have NWA Rewards, so I fly with them the most. I would like to fly Virgin Airlines, but they only have a few select flights in the U.S.

Jet kerosene is up 400%. They are now paying $80 a passenger to fly them.
Hence the $15 checkin charge and the FERVENT hope you buy drinks.

haven't flown in around ten years, so probably the airlines I flew with have gone out of business by now

What is the 80 for? Is it the same for any flight or what is that based on/a fee for?

jet blue always has cool headset video console units w/ music and movies... but pretty much just run up and down east coast. i've flown out west 3 times this year... united, alaskan, and umm idk... but they all sucked ass in the amenities dept but i got where i was going on time. i cant believe you have to even pay extra for an emergency row seat these days...

I don't even have a passport, so probably wouldn't be able to get on an internal flight. I don't fly, never have and probably never will.

you should try flying though, it's actually kinda cool. the best is when the plane is getting up to lift-off speed but still on the ground.

I'm not REAL big on flying, the feeling of falling, rollercoasters... or the like.

I think airplanes are an incredible invention, and I support the notion of it, as far as that goes...
BUT airlines, are in it more for the financial gain... and just like anything like of that nature...... they'll take any advantage they can get away with to make a buck.

I've only flown twice in my life, the first time I was too young to realize that there were different companies who ran airlines, the second time I was too deep in my angsty, apathetic teens to care which airline we were using. I'm planning on doing student exchange to Japan in a few years though, so I guess then I'll ride whichever airline my uni tells me to.

That can't be right. (I hope it can't.) Nobody drinks $80 of booze on a flight. Where did you get that figure?

My best airline experiences so far have been with Frontier Airlines. I'm using them again this year to fly out too PDX July 21-25.

I generally haven't had really BAD experiences (yet). I've stuck with United or American mostly.

No, I'm saying the cost of the pilot, airport fees and jet kerosene subtracted by the actual amount of ticket revenue is approximately $80 in the red per person.

That's the airlines' saying it. Jet fuel (kerosene) is up 400%. They need it around 80c - it's right now at $3.00 and climbing.

So that's why they want you to pay for your first bag $15 and then $25 for the second. Hopefully they can sell you food and drinks and some upgrades and get back into the black.

Oops, just realized I posted about this in the gas tank thread. Doh!

Anyway, I looked into jet shares a while back, when I was traveling more, but it had become so pricey and such a pain with all the Mickey Mouse security. Given the pricing on that, it seems unlikely to me that it costs quite as much as the airlines are indicating. If the skyrocketing price of fuel is really eating into their pocket books so hard, they should just make the ticket prices have a proper margin. Nickel and diming people when they get to the airport and may not have extra money to check a bag etc. is just not right.

I just had a pretty positive experience flying Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air. They did try to pull the baggage charge thing on me, but, fortunately, I had printed out all their materials from online where it laid out that what I was carrying was fine and did not warrant an extra charge.

Well, most people will balk at paying $100, but $80 + $10 + $10 + $20 at different times, they will.

Maybe it is just me, but I feel like a deal is a deal and when someone starts adding nonsense on top of what they agreed to, it makes me want to just walk away. And I generally do in such instances.

Then again, whereas you and I both find "Hi there! Is there something I can help you with" from some gurning bastard in a polo shirt annoying, MOST people will purchase more than they would otherwise when someone does so...
