that's crazy. I was just reading about this picture today.
whoever said there was a god?
well there goes the crappy theory that Eric Clapton is God.
Anyway I knew there wasn't when I heard the statement "Dire Straits - played in heaven". That's just a horrible lie.
As for that pic well that is horrible. Surely the photographer could've shoo'd away the vulture at least?
yeah you'd think................or took a few minutes to carry the kid that whole kilometer
Poor thing. :(
....damn.
Ask many preachers why that's allowed to happen and it's usually "because of their SINS".
...yeah, the curse of sin.
is usually the answer... but they follow it up with a Jesus died on the cross so we can have everlasting life in perfect harmony where every tear will be wiped from our eyes... and all that.
People who have died report going to someplace peaceful and better, but few of them report any kind of deity.
I've NEVER bought into that line of "well, that boy died for the curse of the tribe of Ham" any more than "we Americans have big cars and easy credit cause we worship the right God."
Beliefs are tricky, and personal. And should never be pushed on anyone.
Suffering of all types sucks....unless its purposely inflicted or allowed to be inflicted in a dungeon somewhere (just kidding, you get my drift... I hope)
That pic is horribly sad...
BUT we do live in a society where death isnt dealt with in any way.
For instance... if someone is a carnivore.. they can sit down to dinner after unwrapping their flesh of choice...without thinking about where or how it got there...
AND for vegetarians... not all of them when they sit down to a plate full of salad, feels the loss of the plant's life... taken so they can live.
I am very attached to plants, and when I harvest their fruit, I feel loss... I feel loss and appreciation with everything I eat.
We're in an odd place in TIME.
People dont much grow their own food, or animals ... and seldom feel the loss.
Doesn't the Christian version of Heaven talk of the lion lying down with the lamb, and there being no death and suffering?
Didn't we supposedly start out that way?
I'm not pushing my beliefs on you, but the whole notion of torturing billions of souls forever and dealing in millennia of hunger, starvation, torture, age, decay, loss and sadness over eating an apple, I mean isn't that a bit much?
That would be like me beating my baby son to death with an electrical cord for crawling over one of my books.
I agree with you in more ways than I could prolly explain. But I feel your pain.
And as for that whole Jesus bit, it smacks a bit too much of the older brother who takes the alcoholic father's beating to save the younger kids from burns with a hot iron because they spilled the Kool-Aid they were trying to pour with their broken fingers.
That's such a powerfull and emotional picture.
funny...
.....he was close enough to snap the fucking picture but couldn't be bothered to pick the poor baby up and carry him to salvation. My eyes are tearing up i'm so angry.
Here's the thing- you can't expect the world to do anything while you records atrocities and still do nothing. They say justice is blind, well kids, so is sympathy apparently..
Yes, that photograph has spawned many similar responses and raised a lot of debate about the role of journalists.
The photographer, Kevin Carter was famous for his pictures of suffering in Africa. He said, "I was appalled at what they were doing. I was appalled at what I was doing. But then people started talking about those pictures... then I felt that maybe my actions hadn't been at all bad. Being a witness to something this horrible wasn't necessarily such a bad thing to do."
In may 1994 he won the Pulitzer prize for his photography. Just two months later, in July of 1994 he committed suicide.
No paster Ive ever associated with including my father or his father would say such a thing. More along the lines of they are suffering due to others sins. There is more than enough food for the worlds hungry its getting it to them and not filling the pockets of the greedy mother fuckers running the country's.Quote:

There are MANY valid reasons why journalists are SUPPOSED to never get involved.Quote:

Imagine if he had picked up the kid and taken it to safety.
Now the tribe that was starving that one sees him as being in league with them, and shoots him dead.
I think that the best course of action would be to chemically castrate all the thrid world countries via their water supply.
Boom, problem solved with a minimum of pain and suffering.
good you have you back, and as much of a bastard as ever wulf.
Thanks I think. But I'm serious. They're never gonna stop fucking. What else do they have to do, fire up the xbox?
And they're not gonna use condoms for a variety of reasons.
So let 'em bust nuts all they want. If the guns ain't loaded then a thousand year old problem is fixed in the span of a single generation.
In sunday school I used to piss of the teachers, because I'd pray...
Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the lord my soul to sake,
and if I die before I wake,
I'll go to hell for heaven's sake.
I know its disrespectful.... and I wouldnt do such a thing now, because I respect everyone's right to believe what they desire...
BUT I was MADE to go... as a tween/teen... when I didnt want to...
SO I rebelled...
Thats a bit off the point... but not at the same time.
that's not too bad of an idea in theory. but it has disturbing implications of corruption involving eugenics and genocide. I'd only be in favor of forced sterilization if there was some way that it could be done randomly and/or objectively.
Screw randomly, I'd prefer uniformly.
These societies, and I use that term in the loosest sense have contributed nothing to the world but war, famine, pestilence and death. Sound familiar?
How much money is spent to "save darfur" by people who walk down the street of their own countries spitting on the homeless or sending their kids to schools that can't afford textbooks printed in the last decade?
I think everyone has a path... and everyone should adhere to their path, and quit imposing THEIR path on others.
This picture doesn't spark emotion but thought for me, since this topic has touched onto religion.
Being agnostic I don't believe in a god or "ultimate being" so I don't believe that "sin" had anything to do with the boy in this picture. Famine caused this picture, too many people and not enough food. In a way I agree with Rockwulf, third world tribes aren't going to stop reproducing even though they can't support themselves, not to mention a child or two.
In the end it is very sad that this is happening to thousands of people, but you can't help everybody.
Do they really make the connection that having sex is the reason babies are born... I've read a lot of different manuscripts that THEY DONT KNOW the technicallity...
of it all....
PLUS!!! They DO love their kids just as much or more than we do ours... we've just been taught a more civil, and responsible way of continuing the next generation.
My heart goes out to them all.
..... all of them involved.... even the ones of you that its impacted deeply.
If not, that's even more reason to dump a few buckets of birth control into the wells.Quote:

Well it's not like they didn't have the same THOUSANDS of years to upgrade their situation that every other culture on the planet. Sometimes you just have to give the retarded kids a classroom of their own.

Why stop at just them? Chemically castrate the entire human race by that argument. Boom, even more problems solved. I wouldn't be so sure that some of the first world countries aren't seen as a menace out of control either.Quote:

Fuck the middle east
There's too many problems
They just get in the way
We sure could live without them
They hijack our planes
They raise our oil prices
We'll kill them all and have a ball
And end their fuckin' crisis
BEIRUT, LEBANON-Won't exist once we're done
LIBYA, IRAN-We'll flush the bastards down the can
SYRIANS and SHIITES-Crush their faces with our might
Then Israel and Egypt can live in peace without these dicks
Ive been thinking for awhile that we in the US should put birth control in the water and if you wanted to have a child you would apply for an antidote to the birth control. My thinking this stemmed from the welfare abuse that is happening and overpopulation of course.
What about all those who would die from birth control related complications?
