Shameless political rant: the economy

Everyone agrees the economy is in the shitter, except, of course, the hard core Republicans who seem to think that

- we're winning the war in Iraq
- P.A.T.R.I.O.T. is a necessary curtailing of all our rights
- the economy is doing great.

The dollar is worthless, the price of oil is up 400% in less than eight years, 200% of that rise within eight months.

"Oh but those liberals... those liberals are looking for a recession where there is none."

I see. Well, anecdotal evidence that people are working fucking harder for less, and now this:

5.5% unemployment? Might as well be in CANADA.

I'd wager that if you looked at that 0.9% growth in the economy, it's everyone's 20% down, but them oil wells gouging people are raking money in hand over fist, and averaging the two looks like growth.

Kind of like the average WA software engineer makes $475,000 a year. Take my salary, that of a bunch of other people, add in Bill Gates, divide by the number of people.....

And YET, my roommates REFUSE to consider voting for Obama because

- he hates America
- he's a closet Muslim terrorist

and DEAR FUCKING LORD, THEY MIGHT MAKE GAY MARRIAGE LEGAL.

You see the Republicans making THIS a campaign issue AGAIN. Let's hope Barack has the political savvy to sidestep THIS particular torpedo. Hey, it's a stupid, easily telegraphed haymaker, but it's always connected and ALWAYS KOs the non-Republican.
