do you find men who drive ecofriendly cars sexier?

EcoGeeks get all the girls

Just in case you needed another reason to care about the environment: It turns out girls dig guys who dig environmental technology.
According to a study conducted by GM as part of this year's Challenge X competition:
* Nearly 9 in 10 women (88 percent) say they'd rather chat up someone who owns the latest fuel-efficient car versus the latest sports car.
* Eighty percent of American car buyers would find someone with the latest fuel-efficient car more interesting to talk to at a party than someone with the latest sports car.
* More than 4 out of 10 (45 percent) 18- to 43-year-olds say it's a fashion faux pas nowadays to have a car that's not green or environmentally friendly.
Little did we know we've been fashionable all along! (OK, maybe not me - I'm still tooling around in my old Sentra.) No one seems to have told 80 percent of America that it's actually greener to keep driving your current car than to invest in buying a new one.
Nonetheless, this study is good news. And when I buy my first new car (never!), I'll be sure to let everyone know how green it is.
GM's Challenge X is a yearly competition among college students to make GM vehicles more efficient. This year's competition had students from 17 universities "re-engineering" Chevy's Equinox to make it more efficient and reduce its greenhouse impact, while retaining consumer appeal.
Solutions the students put together included using alternative propulsion systems like fuel cells and hybrid technologies, and using alternative fuels like biodiesel and ethanol.
This year's winners are from Mississippi State. They increased the fuel economy of the Equinox by almost 40 percent with a hybrid-electric biodiesel engine.
That's hot.

Well, it's like everything else: it shows evolutionary fitness.
I'll see if this pans out long term: I remember the whole "metrosexual!" to "gah, tired of this, gimme blue collar" trip.

Re: do you find men who drive ecofriendly cars sexier?
women see through 99% of bullshit. just be yourself or you'll look a complete cockend, pretending to be a "something" rarely works
-
Re: do you find men who drive ecofriendly cars sexier?
I think the environment is the lamest pseudo-moral cause ever. Even lamer than flag-burning, which is pretty fucking lame.
In general, I've always prized qualities other than what someone rolls in.
But sexy is black leather seats, metal flake paint, speed, luxury, and/or the ability to exude confidence in a hideous cheap-ass car. Sexy is not responsibility at the pump.
Then again, I roll in a black Town Car and I'd probably buy an electric version of it, if it was a quiet and smooth and fast ride.

Dude, "be yourself" is the worst dating advice I've ever received.

I think a variant on "be yourself" is accurate. If a man or woman just totally owns who they are, even if who they are includes some awful attributes, then that is hot. I am more hot for someone who is proud of being an incredible jerk than someone who is ashamed of being decent and good.
Be yourself, in dating terms, does not mean pour out one's insecurities on the first date, unless you are damn sure your target partner has fantasies about rescuing your ass.
-
Re: do you find men who drive ecofriendly cars sexier?
You'd be the ONLY ONE who'd ever appreciate me for being an incredible jerk, and I love you for it ;)

Re: do you find men who drive ecofriendly cars sexier?
Amelia. i've been on the hunt for a new car, and I've been tempted by a jag X type, okay its a pretend jag. but the same emissions as a supposedly "green car" their overlooked a lot.
hopefully by end of month a shiny new(ish, your a fool to buy new economically over here) Renault.
i don't want to upset my bosses by outstripping them of their hard earned status they remind me of daily once we get to the car park (oh, wait, that actually sounds like fun!).
i'm very hard to live with. i don't try to hide it. if anyone thinks they can live with me then they have been warned by what they have seen

I ride a Harley. Fuck em.

Re: do you find men who drive ecofriendly cars sexier?
You never see an article like "drive an eco-friendly car and men will swarm all over you."
Wonder why it's only men that need to lure?

Dude, have you ever looked at a women's magazine? Seriously, go to the newsstand and pick one and random and they are pretty much obsessed with luring a man or men. I'm better adjusted than a lot of women because I was reading men's mags when they were reading women's mags.
-
Re: do you find men who drive ecofriendly cars sexier?
Amelia, I have indeed read them. They're about luring "the right man". Not the five thousand who are begging for their attention, the one who has the Brad Pitt looks, eco-car and fat bank account.
They're about luring them to do what THEY want to do. "How to get him to marry you, buy you a house, fix your yard".

It's been a while since I made much of a study of them, but I remember a constant barrage of advice on how to get a guy just plain interested. I thought, from a really young age, that, if chicks read more of what guys were reading, they would have a better chance of connecting with them. Of course, I have way more male friends than female ones now, largely, I think, because I have more shared experience with men on average.
Here is my gender neutral dating advice: Be well-groomed for some demographic, doesn't matter which one. Be friendly and outgoing and try to meet new people wherever you go. Whether or not you feel confident, act like you do. You might not get a ring or a house or anal, but you'll have some options to choose from.

Re: do you find men who drive ecofriendly cars sexier?
I spent a half an hour perusing cosmo's on line site. It seems to be about "advancing" the relationship, finding "the one", etc.
Not attracting men. That's the given.

What amazes me is that out of all the years of the woman mag's advices on "finding the right one", they obviously still don't know shit as every month is a new update on the article written over a decade ago.
It's like a medical magazine saying " Finding the cure to cancer page 276!" and every month there's still no cure for cancer.

I think you're looking at it almost from a sociological viewpoint. The reality is: The Earth is a much bigger, badder motherfucker than all of us little hominids combined. We deal with that or it deals with us. It's not about some hippies who pretended the species was anything beyond what I just described.

In terms of getting chicks: Yeah, many do like to see you having *some* purpose. It need not be this one.
-
Re: do you find men who drive ecofriendly cars sexier?
I thought I understood the whole thing. Then I came to different conclusions, dismissed them as sexist, and now am completely scoobied.

Gender relations are FUBAR. We got the liberation gig right but replaced it with nothing. It's a street fight with phony smiles and watered down cocktails for all.

So would I be off-base if I guessed that you'd find it appealing if a hot girl also read magazines about rusty cars and politics?
-
Re: do you find men who drive ecofriendly cars sexier?
One thing I forgot to mention: Chicks are generally more context specific. I've loved animals (more than people as whole) since I was a little kid. That would be way more important to take the edge off (assuming you're a bit of a bad boy or have some animus that radiates)
-
Re: do you find men who drive ecofriendly cars sexier?
tbh, the polotics yes. the rusty cars, i need a voice of reason that will dissuade me from buying a rotten old jag

Dude, any woman like that has a BACKLOG of potential boyfriends, in addition to the one she's madly in love with and mentions every five seconds when you try to talk to her.

Odds are excellent that my annoyance at the sociology blinds me to what could be real dangers which are manifesting within my lifetime.

Re: do you find men who drive ecofriendly cars sexier?
Bikerpunk, ever considered environment friendly bike?
Hahaha, might help in the quest for finding the one :)
-
Re: do you find men who drive ecofriendly cars sexier?
there's no such thing as an eco-freindly car.
I'll refrain from telling you why and instead i'll describe the process of a nice freindly bicycle.
It has rubber tires which are made by burning petroleum, which of course produces co2 and other chemicals into the air. also plastic parts, same thing.
it's made from aluminum. the process of mining and manufacturing aluminum uses all kinds of toxic chemicals and all sorts of machines that are powered by petroleum.
maybe it's made from recycled aluminum which means you get to burn even more coal for electricity to melt it down and reuse it.
those aluminum peices are fabricated and put together in a factory that uses more coal and more of those petroleum powered machines.
so when it comes to cars, well you better get a water powered one because that is the only way that you will ever hope to offset the ammount of pollution generated in the making of the damn thing.
of course you will probably drive it to your polluting house, where you will do your polluting things, and to your polluting job, and out to eat your polluting food.
so you're screwed.

That's not true BP. I read muscle car magazines. I'm a sucker for a man on a Harley. And I don't have a backlog of boyfriends, nor am I madly (or even remotely) in love with anyone.

Well, the next time I'm in Guelph, coffee?

Well: Don't think of it in human terms then. It isn't about those people. They aren't even hitting the right targets. There's no way you could just go with alt. sources right now. Burn nuke clean and start building for the future.

I like your car; it's roomy. getting dressed for the shoot we did was tough in the compact you rented. the town car is great.

:1orglaugh That was a full size premium. It only seemed compact by comparison to my living room on wheels.

Re: do you find men who drive ecofriendly cars sexier?
Yeah you know what? I think the hottest thing would be a guy who rides an old moped from the 80's....god it gets me going just thinking about it.
-
Re: do you find men who drive ecofriendly cars sexier?
Mopeds? You gotta be shitting me.
-
Re: do you find men who drive ecofriendly cars sexier?
I was kidding if that's what you mean.

Re: do you find men who drive ecofriendly cars sexier?
Oh good. It'd suck to have to have a huge hate-on for the one other member from my town.
At least since Miss Bunny left anyway.
