Ever think of junking your cell/home phone?
I always come to the point where I want to. Even when I don't answer, people will leave messages. It's convenient, but it can be annoying.
Anyone junk theirs or just not have one? Does it work in terms of getting shit done? I think it'd be difficult in terms of fulfilling some responsibilities. Beyond that, this sucker would be gone.

Re: Ever think of junking your cell/home phone?
ALL THE FUCKING TIME... I got out of the whole phone desire a yr or so ago and NOW I'd rather take a beating than talk on the phone...
IF anyone wants to talk to me, plz do it thru email, NOW that BOTH sets of my g'parents are dead... I'm not asking too much.

Re: Ever think of junking your cell/home phone?
I must say I *love* my hubby having a cell in the case of emergencies... but other than that (oh, and my daughters cell) BUT other than that I'm just not interested.

Re: Ever think of junking your cell/home phone?
I'd like to trash it. Realistically, I won't be able to pull it off after this summer with school/work etc etc.

Re: Ever think of junking your cell/home phone?

I usually don't answer. Still, you end up with a bunch of messages though. Some are important obviously. Most are silly or even just solicitations.

Re: Ever think of junking your cell/home phone?
I don't own a phone. Everyone hates it.
I rent a car - "CAN I HAVE YO HOME PHONE NUMBAH, AIRAH CODE FIRST?"
No, I don't have one.
"Yes, sir, but ah need yo HOME PHONE NUMBAH."
I DON'T HAVE ONE.
"The computer won't let me carry on without yo HOME PHONE NUMBAH"
CLICK
I don't have anything shipped FedEx or UPS, same reason.

Re: Ever think of junking your cell/home phone?
I use my home phone as a doorbell and my cell phone as either an instant messenger with a long lag time or a repository of unlistened-to messages.

Re: Ever think of junking your cell/home phone?
i used to have a friend who'd converse via lots of sms messages back and forth, used to piss me off something chronic and i'd end up phoning them when all i sent was the message to say "i'm late running" or similar statements

Re: Ever think of junking your cell/home phone?
I love my cellamaphone. It takes pictures and videos and plays music.I can watch TV and movies, listen to the radio, surf the web, instant message, oh..and I can even talk to people. Just don't call me between this time and that time on this day to that day cuz I can't afford to talk to your ass! I love my cellamaphone.

Re: Ever think of junking your cell/home phone?
what you gotta do is get rid of any messaging stuff and you don't want any number displayed, then instead of answering the phone with 'hello' try something like..... 'What?' . If you consistently do this for every call soon the only calls you get are calls that are neccassery.

Re: Ever think of junking your cell/home phone?
I love my cell phone, and haven't had a land line in years. If I don't feel like talking I don't answer, and when My voicemailbox gets too full, i just take the five minutes o delete them. I like texting more than talking most of the time, and my phone is reallyt more of an entertainment device than a communication device for me.

Re: Ever think of junking your cell/home phone?
I pretty much have to have my cell phone, since I'm pretty much squatting at the moment and don't have any other means of communication for jobs and whatnot, I don't get a lot of random calls though, because most people only have my e-mail and the people who have my number know not to call me unless it's important.

no home phone here either, just a cell phone and never get any solicitations on it, so it's very handy!

Re: Ever think of junking your cell/home phone?
I used to work for phone companies. Like anyone for any reason once you've gotten saturated with the things you don't want to talk about them much. This last week I deliberately left the mobile at home for a day and a half and was surprised at how surprised people were when I told them. I might start turning it off more. I hate my current fone more than usual.

I keep it off a lot or claim reception issues (which I do have given the age and insulation of a lot of the buildings etc I frequent)

Re: Ever think of junking your cell/home phone?
I refuse to give cell phone companies one red cent. Seems that every day there's someone in my office on hold for 45 minutes disputing some $75 charge.

That's cool. I think it's just convenience for most. Not really worth it. Hard to get rid of once you have it though.

The best $400 I ever spent was "I quit this contract".

Right On. I'm considering buying out of verizon + a silly comcast 2 year. We'll see. Moving over the next couple weeks: May nix both.
