Fuckin $30 for a haircut!

I took Joel's advice and went down the salon. Not the barber, but an actual salon. And not the kind of place you find 70s decor and little old ladies with weiner dogs, but staff that look like BB.

I did ask at first, and am like, okay, I'll try anything once, you won't believe how much mileage I'm gonna get out of thi....

But I'll tell you what, goddamn if he didn't put like 25 kinds of highly priced stuff made out of gold and unicorn come and various things to wash, condition etc my hair. Dude looked at my eyebrows and POLITELY suggested maybe I should let him give me a free eyebrow waxing.

So sure, why not. So he did. So I ended up with a cut, shampoo, conditioning, eyebrow waxing and 45 minutes of conspiracy theory for four hours' worth of minimum wage. Or six gallons of gas in California.

I must say, I can't put my finger on it, but you can tell the difference.

So yeah, I did pay $30 for a haircut.

I don't think it's a waste of time or money to pamper yourself this way. If it makes you feel good and look good. Do you feel better BP? Btw, $30 is not that much, if you were a woman it would prolly be alot more.

It is wise to follow the will of Joel in such matters.

Maybe it's just where I live, but $30 sounds pretty good to me. Mine cost slightly less than that, before you add in any extras like coloring or a fairly generous tip, but I get mine cut by someone who's been a Blue Blood model for like 13 years.

That came with eyebrow waxing too? Nice. That sounds really good. Congratulations, glad it worked out. It really does make a difference in how people respond to you.

gas is ridiculous right now. It cost me 80 bucks in gas just to get from Philadelphia to Boston this past weekend. *sighs*

$30 is a pretty reasonable sum for a guys haircut. I pay my aesthetician that much just to do my brows. Don't even get me started on what my nails cost. I start at $35 for non-burners/non-friends and go (way way) up from there. Then again I paid $25k to go to hair school and be taught Hair-Fu by the likes of Angus Mitchell (Paul Mitchells son), Robert Cromeans (one of the highest paid hairdressers in the nation), and Takashi Kitamura (most badass haircutter ever).
If you're happy with the result I'd say continue going to the same stylist untill you're ready for a change and when you are make sure to research beforehand on your local review site or go with someone who's given you their card while out and about. Yelp.com is big in SD, I'm sure theres something where you are.
If this reply isn't well structured I blame vodka.

Expirment with products, eventualy you'll learn enough about them to start making informed decisions and I'm always happy to answer questions about them.

Drew, sorry about the hike in your cost of living. For future reference the Snake Oil content in Aveda products is higher than in other brands. ;)

$30 for a haircut and a free wax, thats a good deal. The most, so far, I've paid at a salon was $90 including tip, but that was for basic color and cut.

I haven't had my hair cut by anyone but my self in about 18 months. I never know what to ask for so I just do it myself. I'm content with my mediocre hair doo until someone can suggest the perfect style. I grow my hair for a year or two then get sick of it then shave it off.

The last time I went to a stylist I hated what they did and felt riped off. I wish my hair was straight and not this wavy crap.

30 bucks is nothing for a men's hiar cut. given this economy I thought you would have paid more. especially on the west coast. I would have expected you to pay at least 45, and that's with out a brow wax. I gst a good deal on my hair here in raliegh, but it's only because a friend does my hair, and I don't let ANYONE else touch my hair(with scissors or chemicals), EVER. my hair dresser has been doing my hair for about 2 years now. when I lived in hollywood, I paid 70 bucks to get my hair cut. and that was just for the cut; I left with wet hair.....

It's just, when you're used to paying $8 at Bill's Haircuts, $30's like, er, wow.

Its certainly a step in the right direction guys :P

I second what Joel says about sticking with a stylist, once you find one you like. I had an appointment with my favorite today, and she called in sick, so I let someone else do my hair, and it really is a disappointment. Some stylists just really don't have the same skill, and then the expensive hair cut isn't worth it anymore

Skill can be gained but talent barely.

I'm paying up to a c-note a cut/color (I tip about 25%). I hear ya though. Glad it came out well.

HAHAHA, oh boy. In the last 6 years I have spent exactly 12 dollars on haircuts. One 30 dollar set of clippers still running strong and I think I look decent enough.

I'm actually starting to enjoy having a low maintenance head of hair

The most I paid at a salon was $220. But I lived outside NYC and my hair did look REALLY good when I walked out.
