Doctor Who cliffhanger
I dunno if y'all are Whovians like me, I've watched just about EVERYTHING Doctor Who related and am a huge fan.
What's cool about the episode that ran yesterday is this:
The cliffhanger is - he's regenerating. (Whovians know what I'm talking about). That writes David "freaking cute Harry Potter dude" Tennant out of the picture.
Or does it.
The ending to the whole season? They've prepared and filmed FOUR of them.
How they wrap up the cliffhangers/threads/who's gonna die themes depends
ON HOW THIS WEEK'S CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS GO.
Now THAT is a cliffhanger. They can write him out, keep him in, kill off Sarah Jane, kill off Rose, ALL DEPENDING ON HOW THE MEETINGS THIS WEEK GO.
Dude, this is gonna be a live soap opera like no other.
ROCK ON.

Re: Doctor Who cliffhanger
i was gobsmacked
"wtf, there was no indication Tennant was leaving!"
a great unexpected twist.
oh yes i will be glued to the telly now

Re: Doctor Who cliffhanger
He's confirmed through 2010, but he's also expressed an interest in doing Shakespeare etc. instead.
Their "out". I am sure, is the Doctor's arm. It might contain enough of the Doctor's original regeneration energy to use that instead of another regeneration cycle, to repair the body and keep the same incarnation rather than other regeneration per se.
or, they could simply have the cliffhanger be for the entire season that someone dies, the Doctor comes back in a new form, and another actor has to deal with the post-regeneration trauma and the Dalek assault.
Nice to see Davros back.

Re: Doctor Who cliffhanger
anyway didn't the woman in the library recognize him? surely that would mean he'll look the same for a while now?
isn't this the 11 or possibly 12 regeneration (one of them is a bit confusing) and he possibly only has 13? that could end badly, wonder how they'll work round that

Re: Doctor Who cliffhanger
I haven't seen it yet, but I'll watch it on the interactive tv tomorrow. Before the season was even announced, I had a feeling that Davros would be back (so much so that I named my brand new mobile phone Davros), though from what I'm told by a friend that watchs all the online forums, Davros is only the puppet to some other big villian.
I am lead to believe that the Doctor's final regeneration is meant to be a walking skeleton, but they could have changed this as the franchise seems to have taken the market by storm. I would guess that what they will say is that all the other TimeLords gave all their remaining regenerations to the Doctor, as he was the Rebel or Prodigal sone that always cam home once in a while. Maybe they wanted him to be punished for not being part of the Time War, by condemning him to many lifetimes all alone...

Re: Doctor Who cliffhanger
He's got 3 more lives left, after Tennant, according to canon, unless, as you say, they've put it in that he's got a new regeneration cycle somehow.
-
Re: Doctor Who cliffhanger
you know how things change with diferantwriters.
i mean how may times exactly do the daleks have to be wiped out
-
Re: Doctor Who cliffhanger
They had to bring the Daleks back, though. There's no way they could have had a Dalek-free universe.
It ups the ante for the Doctor, though, with the Time Lords gone.

Re: Doctor Who cliffhanger
Season 3 (4?) the one with the christmas special is showing in Australia now so I am very happy.

Re: Doctor Who cliffhanger
The thing is, he can't regenerate into a different body. If you go back to a recent episode, "In the Library", the female character (I think her name was River) knew who he was straightaway, meaning she had seen him as an older man in the same body. He will have to regenerate in the same body (they may use the excuse that his essence/mind/whatever chooses his shape, that it likes the present shape and keeps him the same.
The fact that David Tennant has signed up to do the next few series/specials gives it away a bit.

Re: Doctor Who cliffhanger
You forget the time travel scaniario:
Say a week before he dies, he travels to after he dies, continues on his merry way, then goes back in time and carks it.

Re: Doctor Who cliffhanger
I suppose I'll find out on sunday morning, since we're out tomorrow night when it's on. I love the fact that we can watch certain shows whenever we want.

Re: Doctor Who cliffhanger
Hi all,
wow theres some interesting theories here :) around the net i heard a lot about the possability of a temporary doctor too ...maybe its just because he's the doctor i grew up with, and because it would be a dream come true, but i'd drop to my knees and give praise if Tom Baker came back to lay the jelly baby smackdown on Davros's ass :D
Although i know Baker has stated no interest in the series, as a doctor, i can still dream! ...until tomorrow

Re: Doctor Who cliffhanger
I think they'll use the arm as a "the energy from the arm fixed him" trip

Re: Doctor Who cliffhanger
I had noticed the hand hasn't moved from the spot on the Tardis where Jack put it at the end of last series. I suppose that is one possiblity. We'll see after tomorrow's episode!

Re: Doctor Who cliffhanger
i'll have to tape it. i hate taping stuff, takes me ages to et roud to it
-
Re: Doctor Who cliffhanger
OK, I won't use any spoilers, but.
WTF?
Can we all say "pre-packaged Hollywood ending"?
-
Re: Doctor Who cliffhanger
bbc.co.uk
It'll be on their iPlayer all week.
As for the ending, yeah, Fisher King ending or what.
And the opening few moments reminded me totally of coitus interruptus.... AHA! SPEWED IT THERE INSTEAD.

Re: Doctor Who cliffhanger
Looking forward to the Christmas Special. Cybermen in Victorian England.
-
Re: Doctor Who cliffhanger
i wonder who the new assistant is.
and does the doctor always has to pick someone form "now"
-
Re: Doctor Who cliffhanger
i'm a bit behind but what about the clone daughter?
she seems to be out flying around i guess trapped in that time though
-
Re: Doctor Who cliffhanger
I think the clone daughter is the new off-shoot series, that they want to do.
The Doctor doesn't always choose companions from Earth, never mind from "Now". Adric wasn't from Earth, Lissa, Romana, Pex. Yes, Ace was but Ace was her own GrandMother.
-
Re: Doctor Who cliffhanger
I didn't realise Ace was from Arkansas.
