Saturday Morning Cartoons
Let me go on record by saying Thundarr The Barbarian was one of the best saturday morning cartoons EVAH! He was the Proto-He-man. Sun swords, Jack Kirby designs, post apocalyptic destruction, busty sorceresses and a Chewbacca'esque sidekick.

Re: Saturday Morning Cartoons
I did not watch many Saturday morning cartoons, because I wasn't generally allowed to watch TV and, more importantly, they were, you know, in the morning. But, when I did, I loved the Super Friends and always hoped to recreate that in real life.

Re: Saturday Morning Cartoons
kids in the 70s watched "Battle of the Planets", which was Gatchaman re-edited to take out the excessive violence, death and the fact that the 2nd main villain was a pansexual transvestite.
Who worshipped a giant floating vagina type thing with eyes.

Re: Saturday Morning Cartoons
thundar was good, so was G-force and superfriends and scooby doo and that dungeons and dragons cartoon and then years later there was the new adventures of mighty mouse
so many.........

Re: Saturday Morning Cartoons
So many to mention, my favourites were Ullyses 31, Jase and the Wheeled Warriors, Fang-Face (for obious reasons) and Battle of the Planets.
-
Re: Saturday Morning Cartoons
G-Force was a do-over of Battle of the Planets.

Re: Saturday Morning Cartoons

I still have my Battle of the Planets lunchbox, I'm suprised it still doesn't smell like balogna sandwiches and milk.

Dungeons and Dragons was a classic. It was made by the same studio that did Spiderman and his Amazing Friends. Plus it had the voices of Willie Ames, Donnie Most, and Adam Rich. How can you beat that.
Also LOVED Bakshi's Mighty Mouse.

Oh it was definitely tongue in cheek. What cartoon character today refers to his female sidekick as "woman" or a little girl as "street wench"?

That's funny because when I was 7 I wanted to do a stage play in my backyard based on the Superfriends. I think it was because of the Brady Bunch and Gilligan's Island episodes where always doing their own plays.

Re: Saturday Morning Cartoons
Fangface rocked. As far as old school Anime I was very into Space Battleship Yamato. Can I hear a shout out for the Wave Motion gun? The Superfriends were also a lot of fun. You mention some live action shows as well. I was a big fan of the old Kroft Bros. shows, I mean, Electra Woman and Dyna Girl? Sapphic imagery anyone?

Re: Saturday Morning Cartoons
must not forget .... Starblazers... or perhaps that was after school.... (strangely enough, i learned to speak italian when i lived in italy by watching cartoons and anime... such classics as Lupen and Jenny Tennis, Captain Harlock.... )

I just picked up a bootleg of Electra Woman and Dyna Girl a couple weeks ago. If you include those two you must include Isis and Shazam.

The Chiller Theatre horror convention in NJ had bootlegs of all that stuff (except for Bigfoot and Wildboy but you can get an episode of that on the Kroft Superstar dvd collection). I also picked up a box set of Herculoids. SCORE!
Did you ever see the live action Legends of the Superfriends and the Roast?
-
Re: Saturday Morning Cartoons
Nope, but I loved the Herculoids. That's so sweet.

Re: Saturday Morning Cartoons
I never had one I really liked, for a good long time I was terrified of Thomas the Tank Engine and friends. We lived right by a railway track as in people on the train could see into our backyard. I used to hear the whistles at night and think the trains were angry. Kindof like other little kids and thunderstorms I guess.

Re: Saturday Morning Cartoons
All the 90s morning/noon cartoons on FOX. Mmmm, thank goodness for the TDIS channel.
