ACLU Sues over FISA Amendments Act of 2008
http://www.aclu.org/safefree/nsaspyi...challenge.html
In the news, the coverage has revolved around granting retroactive immunity to telecom countries that aided the government. The ACLU sees this as an expansion of the ability of the government to eavesdrop on various communications. It's a bit hard to decipher given the Bush administration has already conducted electronic surveillance without judicial review or warrants. This would seem to be a (re?) codification of these practices.
I would have to wager this goes up the food chain to SCOTUS fairly quickly.

By their interpretation of the law? No. Many would argue that they have violated the 4th Amendment on a massive scale, however. Thus the suit.
Re: ACLU Sues over FISA Amendments Act of 2008
"I was ordered to break the law" was no excuse at Nuremberg
but it is with FISA

Certainly. Like I said, my sense is they are just "legalizing" what was happening anyways. It's bizarre what's going on to your south. Today, it appears to be socializing the risk of a large % of the mortgage market (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac) Fucked if I know to what extent it is true.

I tend to see it more as just a breakdown of civil society. Public and private institutions have run amok over the citizenry.
