My Mom Has Cancer

Ovarian cancer to be exact. My Grandmother called me this morning to tell me the news. Apparently my Mother and Grandma have been trying to get in touch with me for a few days now, but I have a shitty phone that doesn't ring sometimes. I cried a lot and got incredibly sick to my stomach from the news, I managed to take a nap to calm me down a bit, but I'm still in tears. Its a really tough thing to hear, that the person who gave birth to you, a person who you love more than anything, has cancer. I know shes a tough lady and will fight it out, but as of right now I am unsure of how early they detected it. I know Cancer doesn't necassarily mean death, but its still a word no one likes to hear.

I will be selling off a lot of stuff on my LJ to fund a plane ticket Friday and leave as soon I am able to, so I can spend some time with her.

I'll keep updating this as things come to light.

I'm sorry to hear this. My mother has had heart problems. Let me know if I can be of any help when you're back in Minnesota. Cancer by no means equates to death.

Very sorry to hear that, I know what a shock it is, I went through it also with my father, was told by the doctor he had stomach cancer. Best thing now is to be with her and support her. I'm hoping that they caught it early enough. Take care and be strong.

I'm so sorry. Cancer is rough, but its no means a death sentence. My sis-in-law to be had Cancer spread just after her pregnancy... its a rough trip, but well worth being there for someone. Best wishes.

That has to be one of the worst things to happen, but that doesent mean this is the end. Be strong and stay with her because right now thats all you can do.

I had/have cervical cancer, with ovarian cysts...they can do amazing things now! Awareness is at an all time high. I'll think about you and your family

This isn't particularly on topic, but scientists have cured cancer using just the immune system by taking a blood sample, and cloning the parts that fight cancer, then injecting it back into the patient.

I think that's cool. o.o

not quite.... they have made advances doing that but not cured yet...

Thank you all for your thoughts and well-wishes, it means a lot. I spoke to my mother for a couple hours yesterday and she is in good spirits, shes definetly a strong one. They did catch it early enough, she will be going through surgery soon. She even likes the fact that she may get to wear a wig. So we are all hopeful. :)

Sorry to hear that you are going through the same thing. Please feel free to PM me if you have any advice or tips that may help her out. She also had ovarian cists and thats how it eventually became cancerous.

i'm really crap with words, but i'm genuinely sorry to hear this. I sincerely hope your Mum pulls through this

As an update on this, my Moms surgery was over a month ago, went pretty well. She started low-dose Chemo and Radiation Monday and is still in high spirits. Shes bored out of her mind though. :)
