How do you find out about new artists/bands?
I used to just get recommendations from friends or hear something at someone's place or at a club or playing with a band I already knew I liked. I feel like I find out about less new music which interests me lately. How do you find out about new artists/bands?
Re: How do you find out about new artists/bands?
Usually through friends or the dj at my bar. He's pretty good for finding new stuff. Saves us alot of time and effort.
I used to listen to the radio alot but it's just too damn annoying now with all the commercials and heavy rotation of the same 6 (usually)crappy songs.

Pandora is huge for me. Also, whenever a friend plays interesting music, I ask about the artist.

I look at local magazines.

I go to shows for bands or venues I like. Usually they will have someone worth checking out, but time and money has kept me homebound more than I like.
******* has been surprisingly helpful.
But the best of it usually comes from someone saying "have you checked this out?"

Hey CPM,
have you checked out.. Oh wait.. you weren't talking about me.. God damn those Geico commercials are annoying!

:lalala: New music is a constant disappointment!.Only new good band I've heard in the last 5 years is Oatie82, they are from the underground industrial german scene and played along with current93.:buttrock:

Fleisch,
I used to be just like you.. But then i saw the light.. Go back and start at the beginning.. I am serious.. Start listening ot the very first band that you like.. make a list.. then cross reference that with all of bands that they have influenced.
You will be amazed at how fast new music will fill your ears

You can only trace back the influences of the bands you already like :) then you may find cool stuff, but the opposite doesn't work, now look at that nose pierced sow "Pink" and im sure she will list joy division and the cure as her influences, (or whatever brittish bands are considered cult this days!)
Re: How do you find out about new artists/bands?
My daughter is 12 now and her friends are also into the same music I am so we trade old school and new school back and forth. One of her friends didn't know who the Cure was! No worries I fixed it.
I also use ******* alot and my husband is a metal band and I threw together a metal benefit show for Bradshaw Mountain Wildlife Reserve at the Longbranch in downtown Knoxville, so we float the scene here in Knoxville quite a bit.We like a lot of the new metal bands from our own town.

i stalk my friends online and see what they're listening to.
i live with a bassist in a metal band, he exposes me to a LOT of old-school obscure music. and when they play a show, i sometimes like at least one of the bands.
i actually like the radio here... sometimes. there's a program on sunday nights that has new bands that are sometimes not horrible.
Re: How do you find out about new artists/bands?
combination of finding a bands influences and digging some out, used to listen to a lot of american radio via the net, as the radio here is quite frankly boring and monotonous
