SoCal transplant, help a girl out?
So....
I just moved to Southern California and I'm lonely as hell.
I have no idea what there is to do out here, where the decent clubs are, what the dress code at said clubs is, and all that good stuff.
If you guys can give me some ideas about how to get out of the damn house, I'd be so appreciative.

Man up a bit and do some exploring.
Re: SoCal transplant, help a girl out?
I lived in hollywood for 4 years. L.A. can suck if you don't know anyone or know where anything is. where are you located?
here's a couple starters:
- saturday night is bar sinister at boardner's in hollywood.
- damianos is the best pizza open late: till 6am.; on la brea, accros from canter's(which has the best pickles, and is open 24hrs). in hollywood
- midori sushi on ventura in studio city. all you can eat sushi that is actually really good. I ate there once a week, lol.
let me give it some more thought.

*like i can talk*
i've been in the east bay for almost 2 years and i don't know the area at all. nor do i know s.f. even though i used to go there on a weekly basis. the only clubs i know about are the ones my friend worked at in the past or works at currently. (total of two) D:
good luck! i'm sure with so many people on here in the l.a. area, you'll get lots of advice. :thumb:

Considering your musical tastes, you should check out Ruin,
on Friday nights at the Monte Cristo.
Also, check this out:

There are actually a lot of things to do in LA.
The challenge is finding people to do them with.
The good thing about the LAdead message board,
is that they often organize group activities, where you
can show up and meet people, and get to know them...
Also check out Das Bunker.
And maybe Bar Sinister.
That should give you a start, at least with the clubs in LA.
Re: SoCal transplant, help a girl out?
problem is i live down in San Clemente, which is two hours btwn LA and San Diego.
Thanks for the advice.

And yeah, OC is not the best place for meeting interesting people!
All my friends who live down there, or in SD, still come up to LA on a regular basis for clubs and events...
Re: SoCal transplant, help a girl out?
I lived in Marina Del Rey (or something like that haha) and wed always venture up to LA for things to do. OC sucks;[ Though there is a nifty little punk bar near Marina Del Rey that we found that was halfway decent. Cool people and ok music.
In LA I second Bar Sinister and Das Bunker.

If you live somewhere, and you can't walk to a cool place, then where you live fucking sucks.

I LIVE in Hollywood and I STILL drive to the Hollywood Clubs.Finding a cab home is next to impossible.
I've got several friends that live down in the O.C. and they carpool up to the L.A. clubs.. Once you find some people down there you'll have an easier time.

Re: SoCal transplant, help a girl out?
I miss LA every day. It is the first place I ever called home.
-Sunday nights at Malediction (www.LADead.com) are kick ass.
-Shogun Sushi (the exact address of which escapes me now, i want to say Reseda) is great food priced fairly cheap with a two hour wait for a table when i was there last. the service is shitty, but i think it's that way on purpose.
-Chili My Soul in Encino is an awesome little restaurant, about 30 different kinds of chili, from vegan and mild to meaty and hotter than hell and everything in between.
-Robbie Mac's Pizza on Van Nuys blvd in Sherman Oaks still has some of the best pizza I've ever put in my mouth. And Golden Chopsticks up the road from there is still in the top five Chinese places ever.
-Little Tokyo down on seventh has some awesome little hole in the wall noodle houses.
-Edie's Coffee House and Cafe in Northridge has great coffee and the coolest pastry displays (yummy too).
Hollywood Sushi and Sunset Thai (in Hollywood) are awesome. and i left some good grafiti in the sunset thai ladies room. There's pictures somewhere.
-Amoeba Music which i want to say is on Melrose but is prolly a block or two away, is the largest independent music store in socal.
yes most of them are restaurants. I'm a foodie.
