And the new Doctor is...
The hassle of keeping this quiet until zero-hour... bribes of as much as 8 pounds were offered for the VT... ;)

Matt Smith
Folks outside the UK will probably have no idea who he is (for that matter, most Brits are probably thinking "er.. who again?").

Living in Florida for 18 years, I still can't get up the gumption to say "y'all". I do say "You all" now, so that's not too bad. Better than when I used to say "You guys" all the time when I first moved down here from NY. Saying "you guys" instead of "you all" didn't fly down here.

I'm sure his mother loves him, but the rest of us are just thinking some folks shouldn't go on blind dates...

Re: And the new Doctor is...
Mr. Davies' taste in men is showing again.

Re: And the new Doctor is...
Well he himself is excited about it. I read somewhere that when he found out that he got the part he paced around his room for 3 days and didn't sleep. It sort've gave me the impression he still lives with his folks. Do they know he's clearly on meth?

Re: And the new Doctor is...
Looks like the Doctor misses out on being a redhead again xD

I think Mr Moffat had more of a say in things this time round. Remember it's supposed to appeal to a teen audience; I guess they thought that means a cast of people their age. There's the whole companion thing to consider too - in early Who "sexual tension" wasn't even a consideration, so you could have a nubile mini-skirted girl dragged off by a bonkers gray-haired old duffer offering her jelly babies with the chat-up line "Come, my dear. It's bigger on the inside", and nobody batted an eyelid. You do know the Tardis only has one bedroom ;)
Now, the Doctor has to fancy his companion as the theme's been ingrained into the writing, so never mind how old he's supposed to be, the focus groups complain less if he's the same age as the actress/actor/monkey cast against him. Same for a female doctor - lots of awkward cougar-type issues; best not go there and leave the lesbian orgies to Torchwood.

Re: And the new Doctor is...
i don't know him, and chnages scares me. i don't like him. *harrumph*
but then i didn't like Ectoplasm (Eccelston) and it took Tennent nearly a three full episodes to win me over. my doctor is still Baker (7) and always will be.

No! Me. I should. ^_^

Re: And the new Doctor is...
Question is, are they going to stick to already established mythology and make one of the next Doctors evil? In the 14 part The Trial of a Timelord with the 6th Doctor, it was revealed that the Valeyard was the Doctor's evil future self (between his 12th and 13th regenerations, whatever exactly the Master meant by that)...

Re: And the new Doctor is...
I'm ambivalent. I loved the old doctor- he was quirky and cute...the new doctor- while he is very attractive- has no 'quirkiness' about him that the original character entailed. I'm worried he won't have anything going but the 'hot factor' and totally miss the mark of the original series intention in the character. Needless to say...I'll watch a few episodes and make my judgment. I hate change..if it ain't broke...I say...don't fix it.
