In 50 years - worse, in 100 - better.

If we're still monitoring a 'western world' at that point, my hopes will be fairly low.
Hard to say...
Depends if things flop along randomly, the way they have for the past 50 years, or if something big happens. If something big happens, like a pandemic, or worldwide economic collapse, I think the world's leaders will re-think the way they run the world, and things will be better in the future. If things keep going the way they are, things may slowly fall apart.
If futuristic movies teach me anything, it's that we'll be totally fucked in 100 years...And ruled by apes.
Don't forget the bugs trying to take over the galaxy.
Honestly, I doubt the human race is going to be around in 100 years. Either WW3 is going to break out and everyone gets nuked to death, or we just destroy the environment to the point of complete death and mother nature gets her vengeance and wipes out the human race so the Earth can rebuild what the humans destroyed.
If we are to believe in holy scriptures then around 2020 we'll be ruled by Israel (Antichrist ruling from temple of Solomon) for 20 years until Christ comes and "saves" us. After that comes Armageddon. But who really believes in that stuff anymore.
I'm sure it'll be different.........

...having said that, the secular west is in a whole heap of shitfuckton of trouble if we don't do something about religious fanatics of all stripes. It's about time we got over ourselves as 'humane' and started kicking some serious religious ass. They're planning on doing it to us.
