Would you fight for your country in a conflict you disagreed with?
Soldiers don't generally get to make policy, yet no nation state can function without soldiers. Would you be willing to fight for your country in a conflict you disagreed with?
Re: Would you fight for your country in a conflict you disagreed with?
It depends if it's us invading someplace else, or someone else invading us.
If I feel the US is in the wrong, I wouldn't feel right about killing innocent people we decided were our "enemies".
But if some other country is in the right, and attacks the US, I would probably defend my country, even if I thought we were the ones in the wrong.
Which is exactly what happened in Iraq.
I doubt the people there agreed with Saddam Hussein's decisions, but when they were occupied by US troops, they fought to get us out of there.

Fuck no. I'd fight my country if they tried to make me, though, and not necessarily immediately and openly.

OliX poses a good question. I don't actually consider any country 'mine', even if I live within an area one claims to own.

I intended it to be double meaning question. First considering my history and other considering my view on society and world as a whole.
I think that no ideology is worth dying for. Not even Scientology.

If I readily joined the military, sure, that's my job. I'm too old to ever be drafted now, but if I didn't believe in what we were fighting for though and was drafted, I probably would head off to Canada.

Already am. Well, not really, I just fix the helicopters that fly the ground pounders to wherever they're going. But if the post ever got invaded.... you'd never hear from me again because I'd probably be dead.

I actually can't answer that question.............the possibily of being faced with such a situation, even in the hypothetical universe just doesn't exist for me.
At this point in my life..........
