too fat to work but wants more money
Family who are 'too fat to work' say £22,000 worth of benefits is not enough
A family of four with a combined weight of 83 stone say they are "too fat to work" and need more than the £22,000 they currently receive in benefits
Philip Chawner, 53, and his 57-year-old wife Audrey weigh 24st. Their daughter Emma, 19, weighs 17st, while her older sister Samantha, 21, weighs 18st.
The family from Blackburn claim £22,508 a year in benefits, equivalent to the take-home pay from a £30,000 salary.
The Chawners, haven't worked in 11 years, claim their weight is a hereditary condition and the money they receive is insufficient to live on.
Mr Chawner said: "What we get barely covers the bills and puts food on the table. It's not our fault we can't work. We deserve more."
The family claim to spend £50 a week on food and consume 3,000 calories each a day. The recommended maximum intake is 2,000 for women and 2,500 for men.
"We have cereal for breakfast, bacon butties for lunch and microwave pies with mashed potato or chips for dinner," Mrs Chawner told Closer magazine.
"All that healthy food, like fruit and veg, is too expensive. We're fat because it's in our genes. Our whole family is overweight," she added.
Each week, Mr and Mrs Chawner, who have been married for 23 years, receive £177 in income support and incapacity benefit. Mrs Chawner is paid an extra £330-a-month disability allowance for epilepsy and asthma, both a result of being overweight.
Mr Chawner gets £71 a month after developing Type 2 diabetes because of his size. He was on a waiting list for a gastric band last year, but a heart condition made the operation unsuitable. Their daughter Samantha receives £84 in Jobseekers' Allowance each fortnight while Emma, who is training to be a hairdresser, gets £58 every two weeks under a hardship fund for low-income students.
Emma, said: "I'm a student and don't have time to exercise" she said "We all want to lose weight to stop the abuse we get in the street, but we don't know how."

Re: too fat to work but wants more money
I think that's one of the most insulting things I've ever read.
I've met plenty of people much fatter than them that worked for a living. Sometimes in jobs that required tons of physical labor and walking. The statement that they are too fat to work is so asinine I hope they lose their benefits for just being lazy fucks.
You're too fat to work when your ankles/knees give out from the strain your incredible weight puts on them when you were walking around the block trying to lose weight. You're too fat to work when your heart is giving out because you've spent the entire day working in the hot sun trying to mow your goddamn lawn with a push mower.
If you're sitting in the house eating cheetos all day and wondering why the pounds on your ass aren't magically being shed off. You aren't too fat to work you're too stupid and lazy to work. I don't feel sympathy for these lazy bastards at all when there are plenty of people with legitimate weight related health problems actually trying to do something about their weight and still trying to work or at the very least be self-sufficient and not trying to completely sustain themselves on government handouts.
Or in Summary- Fuck that Family.
and no I'm not fat, just a bit chubby and I'm working on it :p:

Re: too fat to work but wants more money
surely they can get a job as a speed bump?
-
Re: too fat to work but wants more money
How ridiculous. I don't see what's keeping them from working, though.... I mean, they are big, but they aren't unbelievably large. I've seen bigger people who are employed.
-
Re: too fat to work but wants more money
How the hell you gonna be too fat to work? What a load aye shite.
-
Re: too fat to work but wants more money
I bet those two on the ends could make some moneh on teh interwebs... Is that rude, or good advice? It's so hard to tell these days.

Re: too fat to work but wants more money
Thats crap and they know it. Just because you may be larger genetically dosent mean that the extra 1000 calories they eat has nothing to do with being a fat lazy fuck. Maybe they should cut down on the snacks, get liposucktion, atleast then they could get a job as a sail.

If anything's in their genes, it's being a freeloading excuse-generator.

And there's no excuse to say "health" food is expensive. They are doing it wrong then. You can eat the same thing they HAVE been eating, but by watching how many calories and fat per calories per serving, it will have a more positive effect than a negative.
My wife lost over 50 pounds in 6 months eating the same things she always did..but just maintaining how many calories she was intaking.
Oh..and exercise 20 minutes a day. Even walking helps.

Re: too fat to work but wants more money
Meh. I get that they're given barely enough for a respectable bourgeois consumer's lifestyle, but I do think that the barriers that keep them from living happily (or losing weight, at that) consist primarily of a lack of imagination. The fact that those barriers are mostly inherited from the rest of the world does little to soften responsibility for that.
That said, the whole article seems like it was deliberately designed to provide wanking material for an OMG-those-people-aren't-like-us-and-aren't-trying-hard-enough-to-change-that-to-deserve-empathy circle jerk.

What's up with you and imagination Raza?

Re: too fat to work but wants more money
The lack of it is what allows most human problems. It's bound to come up a lot.
-
Re: too fat to work but wants more money
I think the main barrier from them losing weight and suceeding in life is being giant fatasses who are using science as an excuse to be fatasses and leeching money from everyone to do it.
3,000 calories a day? No wonder you all weigh 300 pounds. Cut your calories to 2000 a day and walk 30 mins a day and the fat will magically burn off.
genetically fat..what bullshit.

Re: too fat to work but wants more money
As I was reading this, before I looked at the photo, I was imagining a very over-weight family, like, covering the King Size mattress fat. The father isn't that big in the first place. And yea, what the hell, they look fully capable to work, even work from home if they think their too fat to get out to work. Some people.

Re: too fat to work but wants more money
I like how one of the daughter's training to be a hairdresser. Yeah, I'd like to see her on her feet all day. That'll never happen. That's a big waste of schooling if you ask me. I'm sure the government kicking out the cash for that training too.

Re: too fat to work but wants more money
Dude doesn't even look that fat! What's worse, is everyone looks at Americans as fat and stupid when fuckers like these are claiming to be too fat to work.

Me too, but I was thinking more like, needs a crane to hoist themselves off of said king size bed.

Re: too fat to work but wants more money
In all fairness, I actually do find it much easier to be slimmer and in better shape with more money and I find that to be more the case with each passing year.
That said, those folks just don't look too fat to work. Then again, maybe I've just attended one too many conventions for web professionals who mostly work in a room by themselves in front of a computer.

Re: too fat to work but wants more money
You know, we have a lot of homeless. They could get payed to eat the homeless so we don't have to see them on the streets, or we could just cut them up and let the homeless people use them for shelters.
