The Swedish Pirate Party, campaigners for abolition of intellectual property and online usage tracking, have won a seat in the European parliament after 7% of Swedes voted for them.

What is the most fucked up thing of all, is that if Treaty of Lisbon goes through in Sweden Sweden will get 2 extra seats. So 20 instead of 18. That rule emerged almost instantly after the results of voting. And now comes the "fucked up" part. If we accept ToL and get two extra seats they'll be automatically rendered vote-less. And those two places are Pirate Partiet places.
One more thing I should mention is that media picture us as a one question party, as we deal only with one and only thing. That's wrong! We talk about different aspects of politics than just privacy rights. Beating the big brother isn't our only mission. And even when you look back in past you can see that 2 of the 3 leading parties in Sweden started of as "one question" party.
I pray now for ToL to not be accepted by Sweden. That's would be beginning of the end of everything that's still considered free.

Yeah, that happened the same way to the dutch pedo party. Everybody kept going on about legalising possession of child porn and the lowered age of consent, even though they had awesome stances on everything else too!Quote:

Right, so it doesn't actually cost the pirates; it just makes only a symbolic gesture while it should have won them a full seat and vote. And will those seats be voteless for the entire time that this election determines who occupies them, or will winning them eventually become meaningful?
And the PNVD was a blast, seriously. That single handedly rendered two elections' worth of 'who did you vote for?' conversations non-boring.
I just did a pirate radio interview; that was fun. Got to curse to my heart's content while the host chose to say, "bleep." It was her 2nd pirate radio station so the thrill must have left her.
