SAN DIEGO -- A ground squirrel found at the Doane Valley Campground on Palomar Mountain has tested positive for plague, the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health announced Wednesday.
"This is the first squirrel that has tested positive for plague this year in this park," said Gary Erbeck, director of the county DEH. "Please don't set up your tents near squirrel burrows, do not feed the squirrels and please warn your children not to play with the squirrels."
Plague is a bacterial disease of wild rodents that can be transmitted to humans through the bite of infected fleas.
So far, there have been no locally acquired human cases of plague reported in San Diego County, according to the DEH.
Signs have been posted warning visitors, campers and hikers in areas where plague has been confirmed, health officials said.

well, it might acquire an immunity to the cure..........it happens

It's not a virus, its bacterial. They can develop another cure/vaccine.
