Pay Sites
In recent years a lot of sites (mainly entertainment related) have become monthly or yearly fee charging places. I remember people being pretty pissed at that notion and going so far as they would never pa.Given the reality of the world and changing face of the net it's pretty much expected if you as a consumer want to see the services or content they offer stick around.
Many sites I went to now have fees that I pay and more continue to steer in that direction. However with many other things following a similar path it does get a bit expensive, totally worthwhile mind you, but expensive.
So the question is...over the years have you found yourself paying for website access or did you simply stop going? Do you think the prices are fair or unrealistic? Roughly how many sites to you pay for access too?
This came up recently for me when I started to go over my monthly bills and saw that it's getting up there...enough so that I may have to cut a few out given the money spent/time I spend on the site monthly reality. With many using $15 to $20 a month as flat fee it gets pricey...though many sites do offer discounts for yearly or quarterly subscription along with various site access for that same fee.
While it's all really no diffrent then the high times of magazine subscriptions and you do get alot more for what you spend...some are still not totally sold on the idea...could it be the thought of having something physical and tangible for your money is getting in the way?
I've always found it odd that a person would pay say $30 to $40 for an adult DVD with at the most 4 hours of content but would think twice about spending that SAME cash for a months acess to an adult site with tons more content.
Personally I was a really hard sell on pay sites but as much as it may cost me I know for a fact it would cost me 3 to 5 times more for the same content in traditional form. It just doesn't look that way.

Re: Pay Sites
I don't believe I should have to pay to game online......... which is why I never bought Evercrap, Final Fantasy 11, or Star Wars Galaxies

Re: Pay Sites
i lack the funding to pay for things like that

Re: Pay Sites
it depends on my funding at the time... i paid for livejournal (which was pretty reasonable for a full years membership... i did use the added features that made it quite worthwile.. but after it ran out... i kept the free level of service cause i realized i could get by without it and put my money to better use... their are some sites i really want to pay for but remain well out of my price range and other sites that if they forced me to pay for (even if it was under ten bucks a year) i would probably just stop going to...
i admit that there is definately a big stigma with internet and free going together... but if something is worth supporting (or benefits me) then i am not opposed to paying given i have the funds.
