"hold on'er newt, he's headin for the rubarb" is accually a very common saying in my circle of friends.
what can i say i'm from a very small town, and hangout with drunkin hicks....
I've gotten plastered in upstate New York, but I don't know that they have rubarb there.
Headen for the rhubarb (lettuce) can mean about to drive of fthe road too.
You can use almost any noun + ed as an expression for being ansolutely Trashed.

For reasons best told in a Long Story(tm), I get a thick Scots brouge when I get very drunk. Therefore, when I do so, my friends refer to it as me "drinking myself Scottish."
I am also a lover of absinthe, and due to a large quantity of it in one night, followed by hallucinatory escapades in the woods, me drinking is also referred to as "Chasing the green faerie."
