Why do people think people hate Fred Durst?
It seems like a lot of people take it as a given that everyone hates Fred Durst. But that is kind of ridiculous. I mean, someone must be buying his records, so obviously not everyone hates him all that much.
I have no strong opinions on Fred Durst. I've never met him. I think I've been comped an album or two of his, but I don't think I've ever listened to one in its entirety. Maybe I should now. Just thought it was not totally my genre. That Nookie song was catchy enough. Just don't feel that strongly on the whole thing.
So why do people get all worked up about how much they hate Fred Durst? Why does anyone particularly hate him anyway?
-
Re: Why do people think people hate Fred Durst?
Basicaly because he is a talentless asshole.
-
Re: Why do people think people hate Fred Durst?
What makes you think he has no talent?
What makes you think he is an asshole?
I don't get it, so I'm looking for details and explanations.
-
Re: Why do people think people hate Fred Durst?
I like maybe two songs of his...from when bizkit first started....and i like his house of pain stuff too...thats about it...aside from that..i find him unatractive, vain, shallow and much too HAIRY! ICK!
-
Re: Why do people think people hate Fred Durst?
OK he has no talent thats pretty obvious if you listen to one of his albums for more than ten minutes he always sings about the exact same crap women, being pissed off, and how cool limp bizkit is. especially on that chocolate starfish album http://www.i-mockery.com/musicreview...iled.php?id=61 here is an excellent review of said album
and hes an asshole because well he just is read interviews with him and listen to his lyrics
-
Re: Why do people think people hate Fred Durst?
Okay, I admit that I've never listened to one of his albums for more than ten minutes, but his work obviously speaks to a lot of people. It doesn't speak to me, but I'm not really the audience. If it speaks to so many people in a way that so many musicians's work does not, then he must have something to offer. If it is not talent, what do you think he is doing right?
What uncool stuff or sucky views has he expressed in interviews?
-

Hey, I didn't say I wanted to get naked with him. He just doesn't seem so bad to me in an overall sense. I'm sure there are a zillion bands out there where you and most people like fewer than two songs of theirs.
-
Re: Why do people think people hate Fred Durst?
oh I agree.. i don't hate the man...to hate someone you have to give a shit..I was just listing the things about him i don't like...like you asked for hun..:)

Your response makes sense to me, but a lot of the response I read online is totally baffling to me.

Re: Why do people think people hate Fred Durst?
I don't "hate" Fred Durst. (or anyone for that matter) I find it's much more exerting (sp?) to hate someone then it is to accept who they are the desicions they make. I do find Fred Durst annoying, & that stems solelly from his voice. The way his voice sounds to me reminds me of a rejected Beastie Boy. His apperance also appears horrible in my eyes, but who am I to say what's wrong & why should I bother caring how someone else I don't know dresses.

His work doesn't speak to alot of people, EXPOSURE & MARKETING speak to alot of people. His music doesn't have to be good to sell. The selling element is based off of image. & if people are fed that image constantly via MTV, then that is what they will understand as "cool" & "in". Why wouldn't you want to be cool & in? A backwords red cap & a Limp Bizkit CD, your ready to be a dancer on MTV's The Beach House.
I'm sure ANYONE on this board could have no problem naming a band that is really good, but yet doesn't sell nearly enough. If talent spoke to people then this wouldn't be the case.
-
Re: Why do people think people hate Fred Durst?
i don't hate him either,i completly forgot who he was until all the tape thing......he is pretty dumb though.......
-
Re: Why do people think people hate Fred Durst?
Well, this guy seems to make a serious hobby of it, so he might be the one to ask.
For me, Fred Dursts pops up on the radar once in a while saying something stupid and stuck up. There was he incident with (I think) Taproot where he promised to promote them and make them big, did nothing and when they gave up on them left a message saying they were ruined in the music industry for pissing him off.
His music? Sometimes they fire off something catchy, but for the most part it just doesn't grab me.
-
Re: Why do people think people hate Fred Durst?
I find it great that some of the bands he's discovered make a shitton more money than he does........... like Puddle of Mudd....... I don't hate Fred Durst, just most Limp Bizkit fans
-
Re: Why do people think people hate Fred Durst?
Well what's NOT to hate about him? He made awful music that has not only not aged well but become worse as time goes on. It tries to appeal to the hard rock and hip hop audience in such a delibrate and shallow way that it not only feels manufactured but it's insulting. He's an attention whore who does whatever he can to stay in the limelight (playboy parties, spreading rumors about himself, and most recently dedicated a whole site about not hating him)...he's the worst of the worst in terms of this new breed of celebrity that is famous for abosulte shit. He's an abosulte prick by all accounts and lead the termination of his own band really with his horride sense of production.
He got lucky with "faith" ...he even got lucky with the only serious hit album his band ever had but he NEVER grew out of that formula. He even had the fucking balls to try and appeal to the manson fanbase at one point by claiming he was "equally as alienated" in High School...he makes Jock Rock that even jocks don't listen too.
His music is the soundtrack to all that was shit in the late 90's and early 2K's.

It is a proven formula for success in today's music market to have a successful artist support someone with more supposed cred than they have. I don't think Limp Bizkit makes more $ than Korn and I don't think Puddle of Mudd actually moves more albums than Limp Bizkit, but even if that is the case, that is sort of the goal of these sorts of label deals i.e. NIN pushing Marilyn Manson, Eminem pushing 50 Cent, etc.

I don't think MTV ever really promoted Limp Bizkit as in, although they did play it a lot. I actually kind of think a lot of people believe they don't like the guy because of the way MTV presented him as this sort of nobody tattoo artist who broke through because he cozied up to Korn.
A talented band will not sell without exposure and marketing, but there still has to be something to sell. Exposure and marketing alone will not sell a band. You might not like Britny Spears, but she has something special for the tastemakers to be able to sell her so effectively. If you think Limp Bizkit was a manufactured band like Backstreet Boys or N'Sync, that is a perfectly valid issue to have with them.

Outside of playing them a lot though ole Fred was on TRL a lot, plus he had his lil promo shows and just managed to always FEEL like he was always on...a bit like kid rock in a way.

The guy is about as talented as a flaming sack of dog crap. Though it's still funny about his sex tape lawsuit.

What makes you say he is untalented?
-
Re: Why do people think people hate Fred Durst?
He has talent. It just happens to not be the type of talent I subscribe to, for the most part.
-
Re: Why do people think people hate Fred Durst?
I've just seen and heard so many bands that sounds the same or do the same damn thing.
-
Re: Why do people think people hate Fred Durst?
I think the most telling thing about him is the number of ex-friends he has who are seriously pissed at him for something or other.
I seem to recall reading an interview with pornographer/Society 1 frontman Matt Zane, talking about all the famous musicians he had befriended whilst making the 'Backstage Sluts' video series, and he was saying that he hardly sees or hears from KoRn's Jonathan Davis anymore because he's so busy, but Zane was cool with it and fully understood, said what a great guy he (Davis) was, etc, then he said didn't hang out with Durst anymore, nor did he want to, because he was an asshole (or words to that effect, only much stronger).
He just seems to rub a lot of people up the wrong way, and I think that also extends to the media (didn't he have some abrasive interview with some female music reporter a while back, too?).
Once the media have it in for you, you got problems, because they can portray you however the hell they like, and it looks as if Durst, in his own words, is finding out how it is 'Now this red cap gets a rap from the critics'. :D
Of course, it could all just be part of the build 'em up so you can knock 'em down again cycle we seem to go through with celebrities...

That's how I feel too. Seems weird to me that people are so worked up about him.

Re: Why do people think people hate Fred Durst?
I think this is a case of contraversy generating contraversy... or at least stemming from it, you know like something that isn't really contraversial in subject matter but somehow shows off as being contraversial and THAT'S where the contravesy comes from and is all about, but if someone didn't say Hey this is contraversial! then there never woulda been any in the first place.
ok. that may not have made sense.. let me put it this way: You can't make a thread asking people why they hate fred durst and then be surprised that people are saying why they hate fred durst. maybe it's just me but I didn't see random FD bashing popping up all the time... but maybe it did in the erotic section, I don't go there very often it bores me there's only so much fascination I can get from people talking about thier genitals- It's like holy shit! you have a vagina>me too! go on, please, tell me more! I want to hear 30 more threads about this!
-

Well...given the lovely vagina's that happen to be part of the anatomy of many women here I don't think I'm alone in wanting 30 threads about that. Religious, political, music, etc. talk is all grand and good...but lets remember what this board is attached too...the best sites on the net to see a near endless stream of beautiful naked women. Erotica is at the core of this community (though oddly understated these days) and while it may bore you to tears...so do the political and like minded threads for other members.
All the best threads in the past pretty much had sex as a theme with a much wider spectrum of members participating.
Threads related to Religion get a good range but nearly all the political ones are the same people.
Dunno about you but I'd hate for the erotica aspect to take a back seat to the newsbites and topics that go in endless and dull circles (like that lame ass God is Dead thread).

Re: Why do people think people hate Fred Durst?
I don't give 2 shits about durst-
but-
from things I've heard he does sound like an extreme asshole!!
Things like trying to get certain bands off the bill at shows, and turning off the power while bands were playing, on several occasions.
I've always tried to subscribe to the saying "believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see"- butwhen you hear something a lot one can't help but assume theres some truth to it-
now, the afore mentioned actions rank pretty high in my "asshole" list- does anyone agree!!-
plus- he also instigated the riot/whatever at woodstock '99- what the fuck- yeah, we want people riled up at a show but c'mon- see how long it is before we have another festival like that thanks to that asshole!!!
-
Re: Why do people think people hate Fred Durst?
He has a big ego. Very cocky, etc...
Generally, kind of an asshole.
Likes to sound important, thinks he is important, thinks he is super-talented, super-cool etc...
No humility.
People like that set themselves up.
People totally want to see those kind of people crash and burn.
As far as their music, the songs I liked of theirs, I think I liked them
because of aspects of the music itself. The loops, hooks, etc...
Not the singing. I like the little loop on Nookie. It's catchy.
But the singing/rapping? It could have been anyone,
and it would still have been catchy.
It's his attitude and cockiness that pisses people off.
-
Re: Why do people think people hate Fred Durst?
variety is the spice of life
-
Re: Why do people think people hate Fred Durst?
You know I still stand by my earlier statement that I do not hate anyone. However I have came up with a very valid reason for someone to hate him. And that reason is that he is an example to our next generation. Little kids look up to him. Why does it have to be "I did it all for the nookie" why can't it be "I did it all to get a good job".

Thanks for the insight. As usual, you cut through everything extraneous to the heart of the matter.
Sounds like I guess he says obnoxious things in interviews that I would not know about because I don't generally read interviews with artists whose work does not especially interest me.

the song is about being broken-hearted over a girl and being like at least i got good sex out of it. if he dated a girl to get a good job that would not be being a good role model at all.
i hate any parent who raises their kid with so little interaction that they need fred durst as a role model. none of my friends have kids who look up to fred durst.
name three songs by three different artists you like who sing about what to do to get a good job
-
Re: Why do people think people hate Fred Durst?
I never really paid much attention to the actual song, only heard the chorus. So you are right, I shouldn't have spoken prematurely without have listened thoroughly. & the artist I listen to are not the same ones that little kids commonly look up to. You could ask most young children who Limp Bizkit is & I'm sure a good amount of them would have some sort of idea. Now ask that same set of kids who Katatonia, Scarling, Hopesfall, or From Autumn To Ashes is. I don't think you'll recieve the same sort of reactions.

name three songs by three different artists you like which are about what to do to get a good job whether or not they are songs likely to be enjoyed by little kids.
doesn't scarling sing about sex with dead cats or something socially responsible like that?

Okay now you're just being aragont & absorbing in your confidence of being right, I listened to your points but it's apperant that mine were irrelevant to you.
Look at yourself, you're guilty of doing the same thing I just did. I assumed that Limp Bizkit's song was solelly about sex & you're assuming another bands songs are about something there not. (No they don't have any songs about sleeping with dead cats.)
I can't name three songs on ways to get a job, I can't name one. & I repeat the music I listened to isn't offered in the same way that an artsit such as Fred Durst's is.
However I can name plenty of music I listen to that carries positive messages.
Your turn, Can you name three positive messages that Fred Durst potrays to little kids?

i never said i didn't hate fred durst. i said that the idea that bands are supposed to sing about doing things to get a good job is nonsense.
my mistake on the scarling song. it is actually a jack off jill song i was thinking of about sex with a dead cat. same lead singer but i admit i was wrong.
if you were wrong in criticizing fred durst for not singing about how to get a good job you could always just admit it instead of avoiding the question i asked and then attacking me when i asked it again.
feel free to name three songs by three different artists which carry positive messages. i doubt they will be by any bands in your profile
-
Re: Why do people think people hate Fred Durst?
Scarling. From Autumn To Ashes.Afi.Evanescence.The Cure.Hopesfall are all bands known for their positive messages :1orglaugh
and how is this music offered differently from limp bizkit anyway?
scarling is kind of a failure but the cure and afi and (ick) evanescence are on mtv all the time.
-
Re: Why do people think people hate Fred Durst?
That song was a movie adaption & still wasn't about having sex with a cat. & actually a few of those bands are known for their positive messages. AFI is a vegan & straight edge band that constantly helps teens fight suicide & Hopesfall is a christian band. (wich is currently taking part in the taking part in the Take Action tour to raise funds to start teen helplines) I don't see how anyone could consider The Cure anything but positive. Friday I'm In Love, Just Like Heaven, & Boys Don't Cry are all such negative songs.

why is it that some are always learning, but never come to the knowledge of the truth? and their ever open minds refuse to hear a reasonable offer.. humbly i extend the hope i have received careful not to pass judgement or impose my beliefs... but i can no longer apologize for what i hold most dear and with humility i attempt to live my life with a sincerity that can bridge gaps... and know that by abstaining from things of this world, i am not condemning you but i'm choosing as you choose, to follow what i know to be true

Re: Why do people think people hate Fred Durst?
& BTW my "I did it all to get a good job" comment was only an example of a positive image.
This is the crap we're argueing about?
Quote:
Limp Bizkit
Nookie"
I came into this world as a reject
Look into these eyes
Then you'll see the size of these flames
Dwellin on the past
Its burnin' up my brain
Everyone that burns has to learn from the pain
Hey I think about the day
My girlie ran away with my pay
When fellas come to play
No she stuck with my homeez that she fucked
And I'm just a sucker with a lump in my throat
Hey, like a chump
Should I be feelin' bad? No
Should I be feelin good? No
Its kinda sad I'm the laughin' stock of the neighborhood
You would think that I'd be movin' on
But I'm a sucker like I said
Fucked up in the head, not!!
Maybe she just made a mistake
I should give her a break
My heart will ache either way
Hey, what the hell
Watcha want me to say
I wont lie that I cant deny
[Chorus]
I did it all for the nookie
C'mon
The nookie
C'mon
So you can take that cookie
And stick it up your, yeah!!
Stick it up your, yeah!!
Stick it up your, yeah!!
Why did it take so long?
Why did I wait so long, huh
To figure it out? but I did it
And I'm the only one underneath the sun who didn't get it
I cant believe that I can be deceived
By my so called girl, but in reality
Had hidden agenda
She put my tender heart in a blender
And still I surrendered
Hey, like a chump
[chorus]
I'm only human
Its so easy for your friends to give you their advice
They tell you to let it go
But its easier said then done
I appreciate it
I do, but just leave me alone
Leave me alone
Just leave me alone!!
Just leave me alone!
Aint nothin' gonna change
If you can go away
Im just gonna stay here and always be the same
Aint nothin' gonna change
If you can go away
Im just gonna stay here and always be the same
Aint nothin' gonna change
If you can go away
Im just gonna stay here and always be the same
[Chorus]
How about we add bad lyricist to the things to dislike about Mr.Dust?

what song was a movie adaptation? what movie?
most teens don't have access to good vegan food so telling them to be vegan is just telling them to be malnourished and not positive at all.
i love the cure but they are hardly promoting 100% positive messages and they certainly do sing about nookie, albeit in a way i enjoy more than limp bizkit.
you can't even name ONE song about how to get a good job, can you? but you hold that up as an example of what a band should do. that makes no sense.
