Do you like keeping a journal online?
I resisted the trend of keeping a journal online for a long time. Eventually I gave in to the pressure. I kind of liked it for a while, especially when I could comment on other people's and get comments from them. But the thing about most journal sites is that they have no context. I mean, people are not there for having any particular common interests. The whole thing seems to quickly degenerate into a parade of gripes and whines and personal press releases. Combine this with the claim that most of the popular journaling sites supposedly discourage "commercial" activity, but don't police evenly or properly and they sure like to charge for what they provide and . . . well, I don't think I'm enjoying the journal thing as much as I used to and I wondered whether other people felt the same way.

Wow, I didn't even know aol had a blog system. I think ranting is the purest form of blogging in many respects. Does the aol system have ways to get and give comments or some kind of feedback?
Re: Do you like keeping a journal online?
It is a good release when you have nobody around to talk to.
Re: Do you like keeping a journal online?
I really like my livejournal, its a nice way to keep in contact with various friends that have moved away or just live elsewhere in general. Plus, its kinda funny looking back thru old entries. I have quite a few interesting friends that bring the best parts of their personality online to their journal. I don't see mine going anywhere soon. And Amelia I look forward to your entries, damnit! :)
Re: Do you like keeping a journal online?
I like it, I have found some great links because of it, and I also have seen some pretty funny things. I like looking at peoples art, and pictures.
Re: Do you like keeping a journal online?
I like it, it lets friends and family know what's going on in my life and what crap is in my head. It's also cathartic, and I find myself feeling better after a nice, whiny rant :)
Re: Do you like keeping a journal online?
I use too...sorta lost intrest as of late...my life just isn't all that interesting to talk about...plus I don't like talking about myself.
Re: Do you like keeping a journal online?
The randomness of LJ is my favorite part. I started doing it as a way of keeping in touch with a bunch of friends who had moved away, but about half of my lj pals are people with no obvious connection who just took an interest in something I wrote.
Re: Do you like keeping a journal online?
I've had good and bad experiences with my LJ. On one hand it helps me post events I'm working such as any DJ gigs I have as well as posting my artwork. I sell far more work from there than on Ebay. The bad of course everyone knows about...lurking ex's, the new s.o. in said ex's world trying to size you up, people that just like to be rude and then of course the ever popular..."Yer so hott, can I add you?"
Re: Do you like keeping a journal online?

Re: Do you like keeping a journal online?
Sometimes I love my journal, and sometimes I hate it. It's a strange strange thing. I've had mine for about three years now.. so I cling to it sometimes.. it's a good way to see how much you grow over the years.
I've met a lot of cool people through it.. and all that.. but sometimes its just more work than its worth..
