Now this is cool...
Looks as though good ole Google has decided to get into the video on demand game...the hook though...is that anyone can do it, set their own price (with a percentage going to google for upkeep and what not) and...it's simple. Big deal right? People do that all ready...well Google has used the model they used for their Gmail in that space and bandwith are "on them" so to speak. It's all in Beta at the moment but the idea is quite interesting...
Can you imagine what this will do for the indie film scene and student directors? Animators? Flash was HUGE for animation and with google essentially picking up the bandwith cost...this will be a major help to many artists who use moving images as their medium.
The potential is huge...the buzz is already floating around and if peopel get as inventive with this as they have with gmail uses...it'll be an interesting next few years.

It is weird. A bunch of people seem to think this is controversial and potentially bad and I don't see how it could be.

its incredible what the internet has done for mass-media. I'm really looking forward to seeing how it all pans out. The status afforded Tolstoy, Jim Morrison or Picasso will not be afforded to newcomers in this much wider market.
No more demigods; just people!

Google, is collecting meta-data with gmail and even more so with the desktop search engine product. They actually read your email with gmail, if you don't believe me read the License and look at the targeted ads to the right of your messages as you read them. THe meta-data, is collected to keep track of not what was said in the email or on you computer, but what the topic was . Data about data .
Back to the topic ,
