Should I stay or should I go....
I have a job that is dangerous(therefore fun), with great pay, but on the otherhand the on site living conditions suck. Frankly, the danger sucks at times too, but what a rush. I've been doing it for about a year and am thinking about giving it one more. It may seem a little wacked to do this but I have no kids, significant other, or any family to speak off so if I crap out no one else gets hurt. I'm inclined to stay, but at the same time I'm tempted to go.
What do you folks think?
Re: Should I stay or should I go....
hon, if you love what you do stay with it. not many people can say they love their jobs. and its not like every job doesnt have its downside. if you dont mind me asking, what do you do?
Re: Should I stay or should I go....
I drive an truck in Iraq, moving supplies.
Re: Should I stay or should I go....
Sorry, "a" truck...it's early here and I haven't had my coffee yet.
Re: Should I stay or should I go....
My brother in law is setting up computer networks there. He loves his job too. Only thing he hates is that he can't see his sons and my sister.
Re: Should I stay or should I go....
What base is he at? I may bumb into him sometime
Re: Should I stay or should I go....

Re: Should I stay or should I go....
Things I miss here, in no particular order- women, booze, women, social life, women, good food...okay even bad food copared to this crap, breathing air that doesn't have so much dust in it that you could grow crops, and oh yes...women.
Re: Should I stay or should I go....
if ya like it......stick with it.......granted it's probably not the most appealing job to most people. To each there own.....and try not to get your ass shot off. :thumb:
Re: Should I stay or should I go....
Thanks ladybug...I joke about being a proffesional target, but I try to be really bad at it!
Re: Should I stay or should I go....
well not sure what kind of certifications you need to drive those things... but i'm hoping the military doesn't just grab a shumck and throw him in... what i'm getting at is that with the kind of experience and whatever certifications you have you shouldn't have any problem getting a commercial driving job in a ugh, civilian setting, and some of them pay really well. OR if you know enough about it you can get a job as a supervisor or foreman for some warehouse that has drivers, and then you don't really have to do anything at all but make sure everyone else isn't fucking it up.
Re: Should I stay or should I go....
Oh, I have the CDL, I've been doing it stateside for about 8 years. It pays well back there, but the cost of livilng is so high you only take home about half. I'm here as a civillian, driving an unarmored truck, but (forgive me for being crass) the pay here is pretty good. Right around $100k a year. The pay schedule is a little convoluted, but it is by the hour(work time, not 24/7), and I work about 84-112 hours a week. As far as the forman or supervisor jobs...not much chance as I'm not a "member" of what is know here as the Texas Mafia. My neck ain't red enough.
On a plus side, tracers going through the cab while you're driving down the road with the radio blasting is kinda surreal. Takes a couple of hours for your asshole to unpucker, but talk about adrenaline rush! Not to mention launching an 18 wheeler over the 8 inch median at 140kph. Our motto is "drive 'em like ya stole 'em". Some nights I feel like Renfield in the Christopher Lee Drac film, lashing the horses pulling the hearse carriage through the night at breakneck speeds. It sucks that they don't arm us just in case, but oh well.

Yea, but the time inside the wire sucks...you have to deal with "people"
