I thought caimans were the small ones...
I thought that, if you wanted something croc-like for a pet, caimans were the way to go because they are small. Not like I was going to rush out and get one. I want a dog. But I was watching a snippet of the news.
Turns out that caimans are smaller than say alligators. Alligators get to be 12-13 feet and caimans tend to top out at around 6. Still kinda big for a housepet. Especially one with a giant tooth-filled maw.

isnt there one loose in a park somewhere? i think i saw a comercial for the news but i dont like watching the news
Re: I thought caimans were the small ones...
Yeah, caimans are still small in comparison, but they do still get to a fairly decent size as far as pets go! I certainly wouldn't want one crawling around MY backyard!!

In the family of crocodilians, there are four basic members: crocodile, alligator, cayman, and gharial (aka ghavial).
The smallest crocodilians are the Chinese alligator, Alligator sinensis, which attains a length of about 5 feet (1.5 meters), and one of the South American caymans, Caiman palpebrosus, which seldom reaches a length of 4 feet (120 cm).

Cool. I live in Australia - I'd love to own a Water Dragon or Eastern Bearded Dragon...I'd be worried about my dog attacking it though...
