well actually if you are talking about the current gas price spike that was becasue the hurricane shut down almost all the oil refineries on the gulf coast (which is where the majority of our gasoline comes from) and actually weve known for quite some time that the oil thats drilled in america is nowhere near enough to sustain the country (which is why we still import a shitload of it from the middle east)
