True story...
There are federal restrictions on British beef, after concerns over mad cow disease.
So the typical pencil pushers, rather than feed starving people, decided to follow
the official laws about not allowing imported beef into the USA.
Which is the same reason none of the other stuff got there either.
People who are too obsessed with laws and rules, who wanted
people to fill out paperwork, etc, instead of just letting them go
help, or send food, or bring supplies, etc.... Everything had to go
through official channels. If you just let people in America go help,
a lot of these problems would not have happened...
Beaurocracy slows any disaster response.
You have to tell beaurocrats that the rules do not apply in
a disaster, and if they hold up shipments, or hold up help, they will be fired...
You should actually see what they give to the troops in the US military that aren't officers. They get stuff that are rejected from prisons.
if the reason is god damned mad cow disease thats pretty fucked up, british beef industry is now highly regulated, and mad cow disease is not even thought about here anymore. and tbh, some food is better than none, id risk eating british beef if it meant i could have the chance to keep living... and i dont even like beef!

When it comes down to people starving, versus "questionable" British beef,
I'm sure the starving people would rather take their chances...
They should have had cargo planes just dumping tons of food and
water over the city. Screw the distribution protocols, etc... Just drop
it in there as soon as possible...

Well I don't know about the truth of that story, I saw the ship the Brits sent over to help, it circled my ship a few times and then they went and docked in New Orleans to offer aid. I seriously doubt that since they would be the ones handing the food out that they would let someone take them and burn them...I just don't see it getting that out of hand. The story sounds more like someone wanting to get people outraged, as far as I know no supplies were turned away and since I was there...that is a pretty reliable source =P
