theres a tv series called "the future is wild" which is done by Douglas Dixon who did a book called "afterman" ages ago. its the history of what may happen.
how future ice ages and green house effects when the snow melts will effect the animals. way cool stuff like octopuses swinging from trees and big dog size weasely things

The Hot House by Brian Wilson Aldiss is another good book, set in the distant future where we have reverted to smaller humans living in a vast mega mangrove tree that spans the globe
this whole thread reminds me of the parts in stephen kings "dark tower" series about the fucked up creatures in the waste lands. shit thats survived and bred thru like 10 generations... or probably way more... in nuklear waste lands and arent even recognizeable anymore.
