Re: addictive online games
Kingdom of Loathing.
I'm too poor for most online games, but considering my bitter battle with the addicting specter of EverQuest back in the day, this is probably a good thing.

Character creation is CRAZY fun. Very, very diverse. Not a single person looks alike (unless you make two that do on purpose.) Everyone's so customized, and character creation is only one part of the game. I sat for hours, making character after character just playing around with their creation.
The game after that is fun, too. Running around, seeing all the different villans. The missions are great, and the contacts are humo(u)rous. I haven't become bored yet. :P

What kind of style are you after with the lettering? Many still do the handdrawn look so their are tons of tools out their to get the job done. If you're gonna go the slick and modern look that'll be a bit harder since consistancy takes quite a bit of time to nail. Some great books have done hand drawn lettering (some still do) so your best bet is to intigrate it with the art style you have as much as possible...plus its to your benefit to have as distinct a lettering style (be it placement, font, bubble style) as you do artstyle.
Comicraft released an excellent book on the subject not to far back. It's worth reading to at least understand the basics of what you'll need...be it tools or to simply get an idea of what you want in terms of looks and style.
-
Re: addictive online games
i dunno. im probabl gonna do the basic handdrawn style. the best letterer iv ever seen in comics in chris eliopolous so i have a couple of old spidy and savagedragons laying about for referrence. so ill probably try to make it look like eliopolous' style. the one thin ive never gotten about comis thought is why it is every frickin letter is capitalized. Like I said. i wanna be as much hands on with boogirl as possible cus i dotn wanna hav to rely on a computere and not have one some day.

Re: addictive online games
Their are technical reasons as to why but the one I subscribe to is that if you letter it in a manner that you would write it in say for a book...it no longer looks like dialouge. It becomes very distracting and loses the visual impact. I've heard tons of other reasons why ranging from printing reasons to more visual ones about the eye and how it reads what is given...
You're best bet is really doing it yourself and seeing as to why it may or may not work in your book to do the lettering in a grammatical way. One of my favourite hand lettered books was Poison Elves...Drew Hayes realy tied it all together and made the lettering tie INTO the artwork...same with The Sandman.

Re: addictive online games
yeh im figurin that out right now. i started woprking on a little personal comic strip called "URGH!life" which is basically a bunch of skits with zombies in it doing everydaythings oly to end up riddled with bullet sin the end of eachstrip. just did zombie thanx-giving today. lol working on my lettering on it. if I can find a way to scan a few issues in-i'll see what i can do.or if someone would like to volunteer scanning-ill mail you a copy of the issues.
