Teen Dies After Kissing Boyfriend

(AP) A 15-year-old girl with a peanut allergy died after kissing her boyfriend, who had just eaten a peanut butter snack, hospital officials said Monday.

Christina Desforges died in a Quebec hospital Wednesday after doctors were unable to treat her allergic reaction to the kiss the previous weekend.

Desforges, who lived in Saguenay, about 155 miles north of Quebec City, was almost immediately given a shot of adrenaline, a standard tool for treating the anaphylactic shock brought on by a peanut allergy, officials said.

An autopsy was being performed. Dr. Nina Verreault, an allergist at the Chicoutimi Hospital in Saguenay, declined to comment on the case.

The symptoms of peanut allergy can include hives, plunging blood pressure and swelling of the face and throat, which can block breathing.

Peanut allergies have been rising in recent decades. The reason remains unclear but one study found that baby creams or lotions with peanut oil may cause children to develop allergies later in life.

About 1.5 million Americans are severely allergic to even the smallest trace of peanuts and peanut allergies account for 50 to 100 deaths in the United States each year. Canadian figures were not immediately available.

i wouldnt imagine he would have known.. its not really something kids talk about.. " Hey i have allergies to peanuts." when your 15 your self conciouse (sp) kicks in and says" wow..if i tell him that he might think im weird and repulsive?" at least I would. who knows.. maybe they were dating for like a week. maybe she didnt have enough time to tell him.. not exactly something you tell someone when you first meet!

The culprit has been found! Investigators believed that the boyfriend was hiding something under his shell of an excuse. The police suspected the boyfriend was actually "Mr.Peanut". After investigators stripped him of his clothing he was beaten down and will face a jury of jelly this month.

That's fucked up all right. Think this wins "Strangest Death of 2005". Though can you imagine the therepy the BF will need? He won't be kissing anyone for a loooooooooooooooooooooong time.

I'd read about this happening before. One of my friend's boyfriends claimed to be allergic to peanuts. We think he used that as an excuse not to try new foods, or to go to restaurants he didn't like, but the girlfriend never ate nuts of any kind, just to be sure.

Damn that sucks

You know there are 5 kids in my family. I am convinced one of s is going to die some strange and unusual death, but who knows? Imagine if the case of the murderous sandwich was how it all went down.

Peanut allergies are some scary shit; people who have them tend to be extremely sensitive to the allergen, with anaphylactic shock resulting quite easily.

Makes me glad I don't have any food allergies (of which I am aware.)

Are people ever allergic to each other?

I heard you can get pregnant that way too.
