my childhood has been ruined in one saturday morning :'(
so i woke up early this morning for no reason , and i thought it would be a good idea to watch saturday morning cartoons in my pajamas and eat cereal like i used to do as a kid. This turned out to be a mistake because as soon as i flip through the channels i see Ninja Turtles and at first i thout to myself, Rad Ninja Turtles !!:) one of my fav shows as a kid. 10 minutes into it i knew it wasnt the same ninja turtles it was darker but not in a good way , and it just didint have the same magic as the old show:( . I was a bit disapointed but figured it couldnt get any worse and then the new GI Joe cartoon came on again i was like HELL MOTHER FUCKIN YEAH!! :buttrock: but to my horror they have japanimated the damn show ^_^. Awww heellll nawww they did not fuckin do this to my #1 all time favorite show as a kid. i was angry and saddened. angry because i realized im getting old and sad because this is the crap kids nowadays are growing up with. overall its been the worst morning ever :maxgne:

Re: my childhood has been ruined in one saturday morning :'(
Hey remember the stuff on Disney was only shown on Disney and the toons on ABC were only shown on ABC....ABC on Saturday mornings has turned into the Disney channel show re-run dumping ground, they have maybe one or two shows that are only seen on ABC, everything else is a re-run form Disney Channel...and CBS shows all the little kid stuff from Nick Jr. and NBC snags thier shows from the Discovery channel...Fox is pretty much the only network that has thier own cartoons and sometimes thier cartoons suck....

Re: my childhood has been ruined in one saturday morning :'(
it's not like this is teh first time that this happened. I think that this is actaully the third ninja turtles show, they made one that was live action like the movies and it sucked, and then I think they made another animated one before this one. as far as transformers go, this is like the 6th series of that. there was 2 computer animated beast wars shows that I thought where pretty good, and a variety of other shows some of them animated, some of them blending animation and CG together.

i realize that, but none have adulterated the original series to the extent that armada has. i mean, beast wars didn't have any remakes of original characters in it, and the second incarnation of the animated series was really just a continuation of the first, with new characters and wasn't too bad. but armada sucks. how can you make a new starscream!?!?

Re: my childhood has been ruined in one saturday morning :'(
I know it's sad they can't have a show anymore where the characters kick ass with out high tech crap, it's sad and depressing!

what's up with that?
tyler durden says: you're not your post count.
anyway, angel S, yeah I agree that changing/rewriting the story could be lame. I havne't really seen any of the new transformers series. I guess it's just bound to happen, I think of it in terms of comic book series where you'll always have the same characters but different series and different stories by different people, some of which are good and some not so good. I'm sure that fans of the original ninja turtles comics, which weren't exactly for kids, were dissapointed by the more kid-freindly animated series most of us are familiar with. the new series has a style that'd more geared toward today's audience, but I don't feel it's even remotley adult in nature, more like pre-teens which was the target audience for the original series.
I think those of us that grew up with these characters are going to feel a bit of nostaliga that can only be found in the original, and while I think kids today will still get the same enjoyment out of them, they just don't see them in the same way because they aren't looking back. It's good that they can have these expereinces in a new way and maybe they'll look back on them the same way someday.

Luckily you can buy most of those old cartoons on DVD.

Re: my childhood has been ruined in one saturday morning :'(
I totally agree about the ruination of sat. morning cartoons...and I've had this conversation many times, so I'll spare you all the rant...and yeah, that cg transformers was the better of the transformers remakes...but overall I too long for the cartoons of yore. Which is why I now stick to the stuff on adultswim. :thumb:

Re: my childhood has been ruined in one saturday morning :'(
anime and GI Joe don't mix.. back in my day Gi Joe was killing commies at Iow Jima. now you may say that there's a difference between chinese and japanese... but the only color joe sees is RED, and then destroys it.

Re: my childhood has been ruined in one saturday morning :'(
Wow, this thread has made me feel so much better about the crippling Sailor Moon addiction that ruined my life from ages 8 to 10. I still have the light-up music-playing moon wand.
*is suddenly and morbidly aware of her girliness*

Re: my childhood has been ruined in one saturday morning :'(
Back in your day? The Only G.I. Fiction that exists has Joe fighting Cobra and Cobra isn't any nationality. They were terrorists not Communists. (P.S. Japan has never been communist)
-
Re: my childhood has been ruined in one saturday morning :'(
Once again, where have they EVER called Cobra Communist? Cobra was called a Terrorist Organization during the entire Marvel/Sunbow run of the cartoon. G.I. Started out as a toyline with NO story, just Realistic Ken Dools for Boys with Militairy outfits. when it finally got a storyline in the 80's they were an anti-terrorist special forces team....
Never in the entire history of G.I. Joe were they fighting "Commies".

I recall the hazy history days of bygone times, when Disney had no commercials DURING a show!
