Assault at C12

I am reposting this. If you want to repost it please do. This girl is from the Portland area and her assailant is currently on the loose.

The victim's name is Heather and she was beaten pretty badly. For a photo of before and after look. (The after photo is up close so beware if you're squeamish I don't suggest looking.)Before and after. She said-

"My left cheekbone is fractured in 8 places, broken in 3; my eye socket is broken in two; my nose is broken; my septum is torn; my jaw is fractured in two places; my bite is off and my teeth are misaligned; part of my cheekbone is floating in my cheek; and, if he had kicked me with ONE MORE OUNCE OF PRESSURE I would have died."

The suspect's name is William Hamlet Hunt.

If you knwo this person or have any idea where he might be please contact the NOLA police department right away. Currently the police are looking for him in and around NOLA.

PS. with such an attitude, I'm simply shocked that we live in a society where someone would resort to using violence to solve thier problems (other then me, of course.)

is there a context, or was this a random attack? (guess since the guy is known it probably wasn't completely random.)

i'd never condone anything illegal, but knowing more about this guy could help locate him faster.

From people who know the victim I haven't heard the details as of yet. I will update with what I find out.

...there's never an excuse for this sort of vileness, but one does like to have one's facts straight before they do anything rash. (being on the recieving end of 'mistaken identity' is no joke.)

well from Heather's ******* blog, it would appear that yes, they were friends (she, and her attacker) and that he drunkenly freaked out that she was hanging out with another guy. at which point he attacked her as she was walking down the street with the other guy. Apparently it was a single kick from a steel toe boot, after he had shoved her to the ground. it's possible that her friend didn't have time to react.

it's all over my space (them *****'s is real cute.) i'd consider getting an account to post a suggestion to mr.hunt's account that the only thing left for him is some form of horrific suicide, as spectacularly public as possible... otherwise he's pretty fucked...

i've maintained my my space purity so far, so this won't alter that. plus there's enough comments of 'omg you're such a hot chick, how could anyone do that to a hot chick.' *sigh* 'tis vomit making.

discriptions of what will happen to him in the LA prison system make vigilante justice seem superflous this time.

i do hope that she recovers, both physically, and emotionally. the descriptions of the surgeries she's going to have to undergo sound quite horrific. poor girl.

upon further reading through their myscape posts before all of this, the really tragic thing about all of this seems to be that she really liked this guy, and thought of him as a very close friend.

That's a real shame. as I suspected, this was someone close to her that extremely overreacted to a situation. also it says that he was drunk, so his judgement was impared. He deserves to go through what she had to endure, but none of us are in a position to fairly deal that out. another thing to consider is that most people are drawn to "alternative" lifestyles because they feel an alienation to conventional society. For many that results from a broken home and a troubled childhood. people learn possesion and violence somewhere, it's not inherrantly with us. I urge you to consider that. I am in no way excusing these actions. they should be paid for. But using violence is not the answer to stop violence, it just encourages more. Anyone that would do that is not the victim here, and so that makes them a perpetrator and I would have to wonder about thier own frame of mind to be so quick at dispensing so-called justice. I agree that this man should do some jail time and undergo counseling, that seems like an approriate course of action.

PS. is there any way that maybe we you guys can help set something up to offer some aid to this girl? I didn't know, maybe get local goth bands and community members to play a benefit show to raise money to cover her hospital bills. It's good that you posted her page, I'm thinking maybe we should go on there and offer some words of encouragement. I'm not sure, i'll try to think of some other stuff.

You know, to be wholly honest, this situation kinda upsets me, but not exactly for the same reasons other people seem to be expressing.

Yes, it is certainly a terrible thing to be kicked in the head or whatever for any reason, and I in no way wish to diminish or trivialize the trauma of interpersonal assault. However, I am secure in my knowledge that I don't actually know all the details and am therefore somewhat unqualified to jump to any justifiable conclusion. If this girl knows this boy, she should be able to track him down and press charges. That is pretty much the only appropriate response.

Now, had it been a random person perhaps breaking into hotel rooms and assaulting strangers, sure, I'd understand the widespread warning, but it wasn't a random act. This was something that happened between two or perhaps three people who knew each other to some extent. I'm not really sure I see the good that can come from making that everybody's business, when obviously all the details are not apparent to the masses.

One big issue this brings up that really bothers me is that the only things that seem to bring people together in our associated scenes anymore seems to be horrible unpleasantness. Clearly a network of people exists that seem to be able to get the word out about stuff, but the only things that ever seem to get any play are something bad happened to a potentially cute or underage girl or someone we used to care about (and potentially still should) died. It's like a Goth Amber Alert.

I've seen this poor girls face a hundred times today, but haven't seen even a fraction of that much energy put into communicating anything about the good stuff that happened at the convention, fun times, what bands were enjoyable, was the fashion show inspiring, etc. That's not to say that I expect my world to be all sunshine and light, but if the only galvanizing factors of supposedly being cool and spooky or whatever is that I get to supposedly be in the know whenever something shitty happens, I'm not sure I see the motivation.

You never hear about a punk rock show, unless the skinheads fuck somebody up or get repeatedly kicked in the head or the police tear gas rioters, etc. You never head about good music unless the artist dies. There is a certain 'if it bleeds, it leads' mentality that has carried itself into our world and I'm not wholly comfortable with it. Perhaps if it could be at least balanced out with the occasional positive sensation, then maybe it wouldn't bother me so much. Clearly there is a network of voices that can get a message out there if motivated, I just think it sucks that they only bother when it's shitty news.

A LOT of horrible things happened in New Orleans in the last year. A LOT of people suffered and are still suffering. If you want to have a benefit, have it for the greater good.

Forrest, I do have to agree with you
and realize that the comments that I
made mostly a knee jerk reaction to
the event... being a victim as well as
a perpetrator of violence in the past
makes it a bit of a sore spot with me.

I try to be level headed and rational,
stoic even... but just seeing that girl's
picture and reading how the scene went
down made something snap in me...
I know how it is to be severely hurt by
a loved one... shot in the face by an ex
and having one girlfriend bash my skull in
with an iron while sleeping... so I can more
than sympathize with her pain, anger and
fear.

Spending many years of recovery through
both incidents, besides others that I won't
go into, I may have healed physically and
thought I had emotionally... until I saw all
of this tonight. It was not my intent to
make any call to condone any more violence
against her assailant but instead state a fact
from statements made by people either
involved or close to the situation.

But I know exactly where you're coming from
especially since for years I was one of the
skinhead fucks that went out to just fuck things
up for everyone else... and believe me, I have
more than paid the price for those acts of stupidity
and violence.

Just last month we had an incident here within
the scene when a young man decided it was a
good idea to murder a group of his fellow party
goers after a zombie rave... and just as what I'm
sure will happen with this, the press made a bigger
mess out of the 'unhealthy party atmosphere, drug
and alcohol abuse' and 'ban guns' headlines, more
than focus on what actually happened.

It's just a fucking shame that anything like this
still goes on and happens in any scene, every
scene actually, there is no 'safe-haven' for any
group as there is always someone out to do
another harm in one way or another. Just even
worse when it happens to come from someone
that you love and thought had loved you as well.

well this is why i said that one should have one's facts straight.

heather's blog is pretty clear, and lucid about what happened. yes it's only 'her side' of the story, but she's pretty clear cut about what went down.

ironically she also insists she was having a great time at C12, up until the attack of course.

i think there is value in spreading this around as he's still at large.

it's tough to prosecute these things.

the 5,000 comments of 'how could anyone do this to such a hottie' are quite disgusting though.

my comments seem about as lame as anyone elses.

...this kind of stuff is really tough to get a conviction on, so i hope they charge the guy with attempted murder/manslaugter, which will carry more weight than assault. (i've watched a fucker get away with this over the last 2 years.)

my main hope is that this girl recovers from her injuries, and the emotional trauma.

Whether or not you feel what has been
said is lame is your opinion, I have no
problem with that but I do not apologize
for anything I said nor think it was lame.

As for one thing, I happen to have more
than just her side of the story as I have
been in touch with my friends in the NOPD
force as well as friends of both Heather
and Bill... and truly he really does have
to hope that law enforcement finds him
before anyone else that is actively looking
for him does.

Do I think it right? No, nothing good ever
comes from vigilantism or a mob rules
mentality... but given the circumstances
and the mindset that concerned friends and
family are in, knowing how difficult it is for
the police to do their work under the stress
of the workload and under staffing along with
the possible lack of conviction or more the lack
of a just penalty fitting the crime, they take
little comfort in catching and meting out their
own bit of punishment and justice.

Coming from both sides of the fence, as it
were, relating to law enforcement... being
not only an ex-corrections/bail enforcement
officer as well as an ex-convict, for the most
part Bill is screwed anyhow no matter who gets
to him first because it will only matter who gets
to him in the end.

If he's arrested and sentenced, inmates have a
way of finding out why you're there and they
will deal with it accordingly... if for some reason
he doesn't go to prison, there will be someone
who will makes sure he gets the same treatment
in return. Right or wrong, it's how things go,
always has and will continue on until the end
of time more than likely.

And as you said, the criminal justice system
is antiquated and overloaded, unable to do an
adequate job... slick and sleazy attorneys make
deals with each other for huge profits, turning
murder one into felony assault, going from life
to 5 years probation is nothing unusual either.
One can only hope that justice is dealt swiftly
and fitting the punishment to the crime as well.

In talking with everyone that I have, everyone
hopes the same as far as Bill getting what he
deserves and Heather's recovery as it will be
a long, difficult and painful process... physically
and mentally for years to come.
